Quality Engineer - Los Angeles, United States - Element Materials Technology
Description
Overview:
Element has an opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer for our LAX, San Bernardino and Anaheim materials testing laboratories. Reporting to the General Manager, you are an essential member of the quality team and responsible for supporting all aspects of the quality management system, continuous improvement processes and safety. This role also supports compliance readiness for new approvals, data analysis, improving First Time Right, customer and regulatory engagement, driving operational excellence projects, and leading the safety program. The successful candidate will have a sound working knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO/IEC 17025, AS9100 or equivalent and Nadcap requirements in relation to materials testing. Experience in relation to the aerospace industry and Nadcap for materials testing is desirable.
In this role, you will have interaction with clients, accreditation bodies and primes and will support driving a culture of quality and integrity in the provision of the inspection and testing services we provide.
You will work onsite supporting these 3 labs and be involved in driving quality, safety and process improvement and will work closely with the Quality Manager, Business Unit Quality Manager and Safety leaders to ensure that Element quality and safety policies, processes and procedures are effectively implemented.
$65,000 - $85,000 /yr
Responsibilities: Develop and maintain quality system procedures to achieve the company stated objectives in conjunction with, and as directed by the Quality Manager.
Develop and/or maintain customer and industry specification controls and procedures needed to ensure compliance with customer purchase order requirements.
Provide training as directed for the quality system procedures, quality planning and corrective/preventative actions.
Assist in the nonconformance reporting, investigation, and resolution in conjunction with the Quality Manager and Department Managers.
Assist and monitor the effectiveness of preventative maintenance and equipment calibration programs as defined in the Quality Manual.
Perform internal audits as defined by the Quality Manual.
Manage the calibration system including creating calibration POs, review and approval of calibration certifications, maintenance of calibration records and ensure equipment is calibrated on-time and no past due equipment in use.
Support new business growth through new approval compliance readiness
Provide technical and engineering leadership, and support the development of new technologies within a local laboratory
Be self-driven to obtain guidance in non-routine testing situations
Have the ability to perform RCCA problem solving activities
Interact with customers on QMS and technical issues and questions
Provide input and support on business development opportunities with new or existing customers
Be confident in making both formal and informal presentations to a wide range of stakeholders on QMS, performance to KPIs, and/or routine testing
Carry out crucial examination and implementation of testing concepts and data
Utilize an assortment of skill, methods, procedures and materials in advanced testing analysis
Be adept at drawing on internal knowledge as well as industry and/or academic resources in reaching testing conclusions

Bachelors degree (or combination of education and relevant experience) in a scientific or engineering discipline, with ideally 5 years experience in materials testing or a related environment (e.g. manufacturing)
Experience of working in an ISO / IEC 17025 environment is preferred
Nadcap experience would be preferred
Proficient in Windows programs e.g. Word, Excel (e.g. data analysis), PowerPoint, PowerBI
Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability prioritize activities
Excellent communication skills
Experience in participating in quality investigations, undertaking root cause analysis, developing corrective action plans, and ensuring the effectiveness of actions undertaken
Ability to stay current with changes in the quality landscape and maintain personal professional development
Ability to identify quality and technical problems and work with colleagues to determine effective and sustainable solutions
Ability to collaborate with colleagues and work effectively as part of a team
