Responsibilities
The Procurement Transplant RN Coordinator coordinates all aspects of solid organ procurement for Mayo Clinic Transplant Teams. The work effort is primarily pre-transplant.

In collaboration with the transplant physician, transplant surgeon, and interdisciplinary healthcare team, assesses and plans to correctly disposition organ offers suitable for organ transplant, as well as identifying, understanding and articulating when organs are not acceptable.

Demonstrates an extremely high level of competency with multiple organs and UNOS policy.

Assesses data reflective of the patient's listing status and appropriately interprets information relative to blood type, HLA interpretation, donor specific antibodies, status on the national UNOS waiting list, body size, and the patient's age-specific needs.

Collaborates with the Medical and Surgical Directors of organ transplant teams and participates in the interpretation and validation of laboratory test results.

Coordinates care at the time of donor organ offer throughout the immediate pre-transplant process including coordination of transportation to transplanting facility.

Performs nursing and administrative duties including collaboration with on-site Organ Procurement Coordinator for optimal donor management, coordinating surgical procurement of transplantable organs, arranging flight or ground transportation for the Procurement team and each Mayo accepted organ in a timely manner.

Ensures compliance of regulatory procedures and protocols throughout the procurement process. Assesses, evaluates, and communicates with the procurement team throughout all procurement cases.

Additional daily and weekly duties include, but are not limited to, attendance at Selection Committee meetings, QAPI meetings, Organ Review meetings, research and documentation of pertinent listing data for patients accepted for transplant, communication of donor follow up to appropriate teams, and maintenance of database with donor specific information.

Day and night shift applicable. Handles 24/7 on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis. Provides leadership through activities such as community involvement, committee work and participation in research. The American Nurses Association (ANA)

Nursing:

Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the United National Organ Standard's guidelines provide the basis for practice.

Qualifications

Graduate of a Bachelor's degree in a nursing program required.
-
Minimum of three years of RN experience required. At least two years of experience as Transplant or Procurement Coordinator is strongly preferred. One year in Critical Care or Operating Room preferred.

  • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) or Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) preferred.
  • Must possess strong organizational, critical thinking and decisionmaking skills, ability to multitask and effectively prioritize workload.
  • Strong communication skills required.
  • The ability to interact effectively with people at all levels inside and outside Mayo Clinic is required.
  • Must possess strong computer skills. Must be able and willing to work independently.

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.

Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

  • Additional certifications may be required by unit guidelines.
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
  • OPO experience strongly preferred. ICU experience strongly preferred. Must be able adaptable and organized.
