JW Michaels is engaged with one of America's favorite retail companies investing in the growth of their privacy team.
Based in the Client's San Francisco Bay Area office and reporting up to the Head of Privacy, this will play a highly visible role in shaping and executing the Client's data protection strategy, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations and industry best practices. This role will help drive the Client's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of data privacy, assuring our customers, vendors, and stakeholders that their information is safe.
Primary Responsibilities:
Researches, analyzes, and keeps current on legal issues and laws, legislation, regulations, and court decisions affecting the relevant areas of law; identifies and communicates impactful updates to the team. Performs pre-litigation work without significant oversight, including providing timely and insightful counseling and advice, to minimize risks and potential legal liability.Identifies and analyzes company procedures on a proactive basis to ensure best practices.Prepares reports and analyzes data to identify exposures and risks.Manages strategies for reducing costs and transferring risk.Upholds the security and confidentiality of documents and data within the area of responsibility. Provide focused and pragmatic advice on the implementation and impact of global privacy laws to product and business teams. Serve as an SME on privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default reviews, privacy impact assessments, and data protection impact assessments. Support the security incident response team in the evaluation of, and response to, potential data breaches. Drive compliance strategies for U.S. and international data privacy and personal information collection rules, regulations and standards, including GDPR.
"MUST HAVE" Qualifications:
-JD (or foreign equivalent);
-Active California bar license (or ability to get one asap);
-between 3 and 5 years total post law school experience;
-demonstrable experience with global privacy laws relevant to consumer facing companies;
-strong academic credentials,
-excellent written & verbal communications skills;
-strong knowledge of retail and e-commerce platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
-CIPP/US or CIPP/E, or ability and willingness to achieve one or both within six months;
-Self-starting, proactive, driven, adaptable person who can, with poise and patience, prioritize and manage multiple projects and recalibrate advice in view of shifting priorities, legal developments and risk tolerance;
-Experience working with international teams (EMEA, LATAM and APAC);
-High level of integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity, sense of humor, and willingness to grow.
