Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.This National Guard position is for a FIREFIGHTER (CREW CHIEF-DRIVER OPERATOR) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T and is part of the NC ANG, National Guard (ANG-145th AW / MD / Responsibilities As a FIREFIGHTER, GS , you will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles; drive to the scene of the fire following a predetermined route or selecting an alternate, when necessary, and positions vehicle considering factors, such as wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft; lead a crew in the operation of pumps, foam generators, extended waterways, ground sweep nozzles, and other similar equipment; determine proper pressures, the number of lines, and relays requirements to the booster pumper.
When operating a crash truck, maneuvers vehicle to keep the fire in optimum range while ensuring that backflash or flashover will not occur; maintain constant awareness of levels in self-contained breathing apparatus and warns other firefighters when tanks are close to empty; assist in training other firefighters on driving vehicles and operating equipment; participate as a member of the base HAZMAT Response Team' participate in the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Firefighter Certification System; perform and direct assigned crew in the performance of crash/rescue and firefighting duties at airfields handling large or complex aircraft (e.g.fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger); perform and lead assigned crew in structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes; perform and lead assigned crew in the rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility; maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities; lead a crew of one or two firefighters, GS-04 or GS-05, assigned to man the major piece of motorized firefighting equipment in firefighting and rescue operations.
Requirements Conditions of Employment Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program. Must comply with the AF Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.Refer to DoD M, February 23, 2006, Table C2.T1, DoD Fire and Emergency Services Minimum Qualification Standards and Certification Requirements Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
Required to participate in a physical fitness program and pass an annual physical IAW DoDI. Incumbent is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week unless TDY or on leave.Incumbent is required to work a 72-hour week on a 24 hour on/24 hour off basis which includes weekends and holidays.

The incumbent must meet all requirements of E-E positions and may be required to take a series of vaccinations and annual boosters to immunize against anthrax and other diseases.
