Recycling is a rapidly growing sector with a promising future, aligning perfectly with the global trend towards a circular, low-carbon economy.

At Hydro, Recycling is one of our key areas of growth, with ambitious targets for incorporating post-consumer scrap into our production.

Our Business Unit (BU) Recycling, within the Aluminium Metal division, operates 5 recycling plants in Europe, 2 in the US, and 1 scrap processing plant in Germany, with plans for further expansion.


To achieve our ambitious recycling strategy, we are seeking to strengthen our team with a Scrap and Raw Material Purchaser (M/F/d) for Germany and Eastern Europe.


Key Responsibilities

  • Learn, manage, and expand our sourcing of aluminium scrap and raw materials to supply our recycling plant in Rackwitz, Germany
  • Maintain and develop relationships with our existing suppliers
  • Identify and qualify potential new scrap suppliers in Germany and Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Baltics)
  • Conduct supplier audits with a focus on quality, health and safety, corporate social responsibility, and compliance
  • Drive the qualification and use of new types of scrap at our relevant plants, including potential preprocessing
  • Negotiate contracts and manage orders for raw material purchases, including agreements for preprocessing/upgrading of scrap
  • Record and report on supplier performance, handle claims and complaints, and use this information to rate our suppliers
  • Gather and provide market intelligence on scrap and establish volume and price
