The Stanford University Fire Marshal's Office (SUFMO) is part of Stanford University's Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and provides comprehensive services to the Stanford community encompassing all aspects of Fire Safety.
All SUFMO staff are dedicated to supporting the academic, research, clinical and public service missions of the University.By providing fire protection/safety engineering, education, maintenance, and prevention & inspection services, we allow the Stanford community to pursue their goals in a safe environment.
The SUFMO group is seeking aFire Prevention Engineer
who, under general direction, will utilize expert knowledge and experience to provide plan review, code consultation, and inspections throughout the university's capital projects delivery process.
In this role, you will:
Examine, review, and comment on plans to ensure compliance with the applicable fire, building, and any other applicable technical codes, standards, laws and regulations, and for life safety issues, especially those that involve fire protection systems, access, egress, general storage, special occupancies and hazards, and the storage and use of hazardous materials.
Consult with other staff, EH&S staff, project managers, construction personnel, and governmental agency staff to ensure fire and life safety systems are appropriately installed and functional.
Prepare fire hazard analyses, including lowest explosive level (LEL) calculations, and reports required by the California Building Code.Negotiate with regulatory agencies as appropriate to arrive at a reasonable accommodation of the code.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent focused on fire protection engineering or a closely related field, and three years of experience examining and reviewing plans related to building construction, fire protection systems, and the storage and use of hazardous materials; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
