    PAY GRADE: G FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt

    POSITION OBJECTIVE:

    Under direction of a school nurse and/or special education nurse, provides for basic health and educational needs of students. Duties include: assisting with special needs students' personal and hygiene needs; following students individual health care plans; documentation of health and educational information; administering medications according to instructions; and monitoring students' condition. Incumbents may also perform routine paraeducator duties.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

    1. Administers medications under the direct supervision of the School Nurse and in accordance with applicable District policies and applicable State laws and regulations.

    2. Collects information about the health of students.

    3. Implements nursing care plans with specific goals and interventions unique to student's needs.

    4. Administers and assists with basic first aid following the assessment of injured students.

    5. Performs a variety of clerical duties, which may include: inputting information into database; running report queries; making copies; creating labels; filing medical records; preparing routine correspondence; and/or, performing other related activities.

    6. Provides emergency personnel with critical data and information within established guidelines and procedures.

    7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

    8. Assists teacher by helping with classroom instruction and working with children during instructional activities. Assists in modifying classroom and homework for students requiring modifications. May assist in planning and implementing field trips for the purpose of reinforcing classroom objectives.

    9. Provides one-on-one and/or group tutoring assistance to students in a variety of curricular areas as needed.

    10. Monitors children's behavior inside and outside of the classroom. Escorts students to areas on campus.

    11. Assists with clean-up and other related tasks following daily activities.

    12. Prepares classroom for activities, including organizing assignments and/or preparing homework folders.

    13. Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):

    Completion of an approved training program and passing score on a knowledge and skills examination

    LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require):

    Licensing Requirements:

    Certified by the Arizona State Board of Nursing (AZBN)
    • Current CPR Certification
    • Current First Aid Certification
    • Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
    KNOWLEDGE: (position requirements at entry):

    Knowledge of:

    • Modern office equipment and procedures;

    • Customer service principles.

    Skill in:

    • Monitoring and assisting children with activities;

    • Using office equipment;

    • Dealing patiently with children;

    • Maintaining order, discipline, and interest of children;

    • Performing routine mathematical calculations;

    • Providing customer service;

    • Utilizing a computer and related software applications;

    • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Physical requirements may require lifting, assisted lifting/moving school age children. Walking , stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, twisting, standing and sitting for extended periods will be required as a normal part of the job.

    Return To Work Retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed below without falling below minimum wage.
