    Description

    Job Title: Inventory Control Specialist

    Company: Industry Leading Company

    General Statement

    Under general supervision, the Inventory Control Specialist conducts physical inventories of a wide variety of stocked items and performs related procedures involving the identification, cataloging, and general inventory management of materials and equipment.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Conducts physical inventories; investigates the cause of inventory discrepancies and recommends corrective action.
    • Identifies and describes materials and equipment held in inventory utilizing manufacturers' catalogs, manuals, engineering drawings, and specifications; contacts manufacturers and suppliers for information and communicates with District plant personnel.
    • Assigns numeric inventory codes to materials and equipment; creates, deletes, updates, and maintains inventory records; enters and extracts inventory control data and reviews inventory control reports.
    • Reviews requisitions for accuracy and item availability; recommends uniform standard specifications; reviews and reports inventory usage patterns for individual plant and District-wide procurement of inventory.

    Other Job Functions

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Environmental Conditions

    Work is performed in a warehouse or storeroom environment involving exposure to a variety of tools, equipment, chemicals, and other industrial materials. Bending, lifting, and the use of stepladders are required to perform duties including physical inventory counts.

    Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of inventory control management.
    • Considerable knowledge of industrial-type commodities and equipment in use by the District.
    • Skill in identifying and describing a wide variety of materials and equipment using manufacturers, suppliers, and in-house resources.
    • Ability to identify and isolate the source of inventory discrepancies and recommend corrective action.
    • Ability to conduct physical inventories accurately and in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Physical strength and agility sufficient to bend, lift, and climb ladders in the conduct of physical inventories.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and four years of technical experience in inventory control.

    Substitution

    Full-time study at an accredited college or university majoring in business or public administration, engineering, or allied science may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of three years.
