    Description

    DutiesYou will support the COLUMBIA Integrated Power System (IPS) warranted technical area in developing DC SWBD and air circuit breakers mechanical and electrical/electronic design requirements.

    You will support DC SWBD warranted technical area in addressing design, operation, and maintenance questions for new design submarine DC SWBD systems.

    You will be responsible for technical disciplines of submarine electric distribution, to include electric plant stability and protection systems, configuration management, human factors, and shipboard operation and maintenance.

    You will provide integrated compatibility test support and rapid problem adjudication.
    You will maintain processes, specifications, standards, and tools to support current and future capability.
    You will manage vendor performance to support the ship construction schedule.

    This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.

    You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
    This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes. Qualifications

    Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-03 pay band (or GS-13 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer providing technical guidance for the design, operation or maintenance of submarine power generation or electric distribution components (e.g., switchboards, circuit breakers, protection devices, electrical safety, power generation equipment).

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

    Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

    EducationApplicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
    Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.

    To be acceptable, the program must:
    (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

    Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

    Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).

    The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)OR

    Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

    Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

    Additional informationThe NH-04 broadband is equivalent to the GS-14 and GS-15 grade levels.

    This position has a control point; thus, the salary range for this position is capped at GS-15, step 05 which is currently equivalent to $185,824.
