    Job Title:
    Senior Director, Design Engineering

    Director of Design Engineering Services is responsible for maintaining key client relationships, developing new clients, and overseeing all aspects of project activity within the Smart Energy (SE) markets.

    Provides direct and indirect supervision to all subordinate managers and employees at multiple sites performing highly specialized roles in several major functions or departments.

    This includes long-term planning, objective setting, policy formation, interpretation and management while providing latitude and discretion to subordinates. Accountable for projects or programs on a multi-national or global basis. Has overall P&L responsibility for site operations or operational accountability for global business units.

    Requires developing new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs or techniques and utilizing them to analyze and interpret difficult problems or situations and/or establishing new strategic direction that is site or multi-site specific.

    Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Has overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods and employees in a functional area. Makes final decisions on administrative and operational matters in area of responsibility to ensure achievement of objectives. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of business unit operations. Assigns objectives, reviews performance and approves employee compensation, coaches for improved performance. Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions normally involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers. May represent the organization in public speaking venues and/or community events.
    Directs all of the engineering activities of a site.
    Develops short- and long-term goals and identifies target customers.
    Directs the provision of engineering design services from customer requirements through product obsolescence.
    Works with potential customers to help define their needs and to present technical proposals to meet those needs.
    Ensures proposals meet requirements for design profitability, manufacturing profitability, etc.
    Interfaces with other design centers to develop complementary services and coordinate capabilities worldwide.

    In-depth knowledge and understanding of the business unit and how decisions impact customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery and the profitability of the unit.

    In-depth knowledge and understanding of engineering design and development, testing, quality and production in a highly dynamic manufacturing environment.

    Broad knowledge of an electronic manufacturing environment, materials and processes.

    Ability to establish business unit goals and coordinate a wide variety of resources to meet quality and quantity metrics.

    Ability to effectively lead, manage, train and motivate a diverse group of employees to meet high levels of technical requirements within tight time deadlines
    Incumbent will perform the duties of this position in a normal office environment.
    Occasional overnight travel is required.
    Bachelor's degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Advanced studies in Business/Operations/Technology are recommended.
