    This role is crucial in the design and construction of solid-state and fiber laser systems. The responsibilities involve modeling and simulating laser performance, orchestrating measurements and diagnostics, and gathering critical performance data. This role also demands the analysis of experimental data to validate system performance theories.

    The Optical Engineer will be expected to develop and document diagnostics and processes for laser system evaluation and fabrication, and to develop component specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures.

    This position is vital as a principal investigator for DoD research and development projects and requires the submission of technical proposals for these programs.

    This position is based in our Niwot, CO office and may require some travel to other program sites, as needed.

    This is an exempt non-supervisory full-time position.
    Prepares calculations, models, and simulations to predict solid state laser system performance.
    Analyzes collected experimental data to assess laser system performance.
    Works with manufacturing and engineering staff to support design.
    Documents designs, procedures, and performance
    Designs optical fixturing and tests to support laser alignment, construction, and performance verification.

    Qualities We Look For
    PhD or MS+5 years in one of the following areas: Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering.
    Appreciation of both technical and business constraints for development projects
    Quickly understands overall project objectives and selects best suited solutions

    Comfortable in adapting to support a wide variety of roles to support different types of laser and Lidar system development projects.

    Proficient use of standard MS Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
    Proficient in use of standard electrical and optical test equipment operation (e.g. oscilloscopes, signalgenerators, laser sources, spectrometers, detectors, etc.).
    Proficient in Matlab, Mathematica, Python, COMSOL, or LabView
    Capable of developing code to process collected sensor data
    Standard laboratory environment utilizing lasers and optical equipment.
    Previously supported outdoor field tests.
    Computers Experience working in an ISO9000 or AS9100 production facility
