Position Summary
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is a prestigiousanddiverseresearch facility that plays a vital role in the study of the universe.The Observatory is an exciting and dynamic organization that is pushing the boundaries of our understanding ofthe universe through the construction and operation of some of the most powerful telescopes in the world. The NRAO offers a wealth of opportunities to learn, explore, and discover.
We are seeking an experienced project manager to lead a variety of projects across the observatory. You will have the opportunity to share your talents in project management of complex scientific software and hardware development with multiple engineering teams to bring projects to successful endings.
This project manager role will be based at one of the NRAO sites located in New Mexico, either Socorro or Albuquerque. If Albuquerque is the preferred location, frequent day trips to Socorro will be required.
What You Will be Doing:
Successfully lead all project management tasks
Expertly optimize resources among assigned projects, determine scheduling priorities, and otherwise coordinate project components for best overall outcome
Monitor and report KPIs, milestones, and other progress metrics
Provide written periodic progress reports to the Observatory including KPIs, milestones, and other progress metrics
Lead project teams through successful gate reviews
Effectively coordinate with project teams, management, stakeholders, and contractors
Work Environment
Work is typically performed in an office environment. The role will require standing and sitting. Occasionally the staff member will be required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, and crouch. May occasionally work at high altitudes. Occasional domestic travel will be required.
Who You Are:
You have at least sevenyears of experience as a project manager actively leading technology and scientific software development projects; Experience with projects related to digital electronics systems and RF data processing is highly desirable
You have demonstrated experience with core program management responsibilities, including scheduling and running effective meetings with geographically disbursed teams; risk management, project scheduling, reporting, acquisition, budgeting
Knowledge, experience, and understanding in two or more of the following areas: radio telescopes; software engineering and development; RF, radar, interferometry, microwave, or millimeter wave systems; high-speed digital electronics; electrical engineering
You have at least a bachelor's degree in a physical science, electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science, or software engineering or significant relevant work experience

NRAO provides excellent paid time off (13 holidays, annual accrual of up to 24 vacation days and 15 sick days, additional time off for doctor/dentist visits, and 8 weeks of paid parental leave). Medical, dental and vision plans are effective on the first day of employment. NRAOs retirement benefit contributes an amount equal to 10 percent of a qualified participants base pay with no required employee contribution; we also offer an optional supplemental, tax-deferred plan for employee retirement contributions.
