    Please note that this role involves working permanent night shifts.

    We are seeking an individual to join the Blood Services Group (BSG) within the Blood Supply Management Division. The selected candidate will act as a laboratory officer supporting the national blood program, focusing on blood component processing and blood inventory management. This position requires the individual to work night shifts on a permanent basis.

    Responsibilities:

    • Blood inventory management:
      • - Ensure timely supply of blood to stakeholders and conduct various test procedures in accordance with laboratory standards.
      • - Manage First-Expiry-First-Out blood product inventory movement for fulfilling hospital orders.
      • - Maintain the cold chain integrity during blood transport with proper packaging methods.
      • - Address stakeholder inquiries promptly, emphasizing service excellence and safety.
      • - Cultivate strong relationships with hospital blood bank laboratories.
    • Blood Component Processing:
      • - Prepare basic blood and blood components.
      • - Perform specialized blood component procedures such as deglycerolization and divided blood processing.
      • - Conduct irradiation processes for blood products.
      • - Execute blood grouping and basic quality control measures.
      • - Operate analytical equipment following SOPs.
      • - Ensure quality control by running checks, maintaining equipment, and troubleshooting when necessary.
    • General and Administrative Tasks:
      • - Adhere to biosafety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
      • - Comply with safety regulations in the laboratory.
      • - Manage stock levels of consumables through regular stocktake.
      • - Monitor the performance of lab instruments and report any malfunctions.
      • - Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
      • - Monitor temperature deviations and respond to alerts.
      • - Oversee donor call-back processes and product recalls if needed.
      • - Compile and report daily national blood stock.

      Requirements:

      • - Relevant qualifications in Science or related fields.
      • - Prior experience in a biomedical or healthcare lab setting is advantageous.
      • - Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
      • - Confident team player with problem-solving abilities.
      • - Strong analytical skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
