    Position Objective

    The Jail Clinic Coordinator provides direction and supervision to Jail Registered Nurses, Heath Technicians, and Medical Support Staff, while collaborating with community stakeholders and their recidivism reducing strategies. Also responsible for all documenting and maintaining accurate medical records as it relates to inmate care.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publication, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
    • Be familiar with and know how to utilize facility policies and national correctional health care standards.
    • Selects and assigns staff, ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring.
    • Liaison between Jail Administration and the Jail Clinic regarding inmate grievances, personnel issues, and disciplinary issues of medical staff.
    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Jail Clinic team. This team includes medical providers, nurses, health techs, support staff, and Jail Administration.
    • Accountable for the daily documentation, tracking, procedures, orders, medications, and follow-up of the inmates' care.
    • Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of clinic staff.
    • Responsible for approving Jail Clinic staff scheduling changes.
    • Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review process.
    • Identifies staff development and training needs, and ensures training is obtained.
    • Assist physicians, dentists, or other medical personnel with treatment and health care plans for inmates.
    • Assists in the coordination of release health care plans for inmates with Jail Re-entry, Community Services, and other community stakeholders.
    • Educate inmates and correctional staff regarding medication side effects or symptoms.
    • Maintain all medical records related to health and medical screening and medical treatment administered to inmates while incarcerated.
    • Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
    • Performs on occasion any task assigned to clinic staff, consistent with licensing or certification requirements.
    • Provides professional nursing care as needed to respond to workload demands or staffing shortages.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or become apparent.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Associate's degree or higher in nursing.
    • 5 years nursing experience in the capacity of a Registered Nurse of which two were in a supervisory role, OR 5 years nursing experience in the capacity of a Registered Nurse and 2 years supervisory experience in any field.
    • Current RN registration with MN Board of Nursing.
    • CPR Certification
    • Valid state issued driver's license.
    • Intermediate proficiency with software applications including Microsoft Word and Excel.

    Desirable Qualifications
    • Prior work experience in triage, primary care clinics, emergency room, or correctional health facility.
    • Prior work experience in community care in the capacity of a licensed social worker or probation agent.
    • Public health nurse certification.
    • Active Certified Correctional Health Professional.
    • Knowledge of Minnesota Department of Corrections (Chapter 2911) Rules Governing Adult Detention Facilities.
    • Knowledge of inmate rights.
    • The ability to deal with hostile or difficult inmates.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • The ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people.
    • Knowledge of County and departmental policies, rules and regulations.
    • Ability to learn the security features needed to work safely in this setting, which includes but not limited to: secured doors and radio communications.
    • Ability to react quickly and calmly in crisis situations.
    • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
    • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge of basic life saving techniques.

    Compensation
    The county strives to be a market competitive employer with compensation rates that are externally competitive and internally equitable. Compensation rates are governed by the county pay matrix and applicable labor contract. Information regarding the county pay programs is available in the Human Resource Department.

    Paid Time Off (PTO)
    PTO benefit accrues at the rate of 21 days per year for the first 3 years for regular full-time staff and is pro-rated for regular part-time staff.

    Holidays
    The 12 calendar holidays that are observed by Crow Wing County are as follows: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, President's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day and Friday following, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

    Health Insurance
    Regular full-time employees and their dependents are eligible for group health insurance coverage, administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Eligibility begins on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

    Regular part-time employees regularly scheduled 30 hours or more per week are eligible for health insurance coverage on a pro-rated basis.

    Dental Insurance
    Delta dental benefit is available to those participating in a health insurance plan. Calendar year annual maximum of $1000 per person.

    Life Insurance
    Regular full-time employees shall be provided a term life insurance policy of $50,000. Optional life insurance is available at the employee's expense.

    Short-Term Disability
    Regular full-time and part-time staff regularly scheduled at least 30 hours per week are eligible for short-term disability following 6 months of qualifying employment. Short-term disability payments begin on the first day following 14 consecutive calendar days of absence attributable to a qualifying disability. The plan provides income replacement of up to 50% of regular pay subject to a maximum limit of $1,000 per week.

    Long-Term Disability
    Regular full-time and part-time staff regularly scheduled at least 30 hours per week are eligible. Long term disability pays 50% of salary up to a maximum of $4,000 per month beginning on day 91 of total disability. The maximum benefits duration is up to the social security normal retirement date.
