    Compensation:$40,000-$65,000/annual salary commensurate with education and experienceCompensation Type:ExemptEmployment Type:RegularScheduled Weekly Hours:40Grade:E17Department:InstructionPosition SummaryFull -time instructors of Northern New Mexico College's Phlebotomy Certificate Program assist the Department Chair to implement and evaluate the phlebotomy curriculum. Duties include teaching in the classroom and clinical setting, evaluation of student learning, program evaluation, student advising, and other duties as assigned in accordance with the mission, vision, and purpose of the phlebotomy program.Duties & Responsibilities

    Teaching

    • Conduct assigned classes at the Espanola Valley High School and the NNMC campus in accordance with the program's vision, mission, and student learning outcomes.
    • Provide regular enrichment sessions to dual credit students that support student academic success.
    • Develop and revise assigned course syllabi. Provide a course syllabus to all students that includes all course requirements and assignments.
    • Establish and utilize a Blackboard shell for each course following the program guidelines for use of Blackboard in the curriculum.
    • Acquaint students with course content and requirements during the first week of scheduled class.
    • Meet every assigned class at its designated time except for emergency situations and approved absences.
    • Arrange for coverage of classes during planned absences.
    • Maintain a well-ordered classroom that is conducive to learning. Maintain accurate attendance records of students enrolled in each class.
    • Maintain accurate scholastic records of students enrolled in each class and submit reports according to schedule to the Registrar's Office.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate the learning styles of the students.
    • Demonstrate a command of the subject matter in the area of teaching. Respect diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Encourages student participation and questions. Model and encourage a collaborative faculty-student relationship.
    • Serve as a role model for students in professional and personal interactions.

    Program Evaluation

    • Evaluate student academic coursework in both didactic and clinical courses.
    • Review student evaluations of assigned courses and utilize feedback for planning and implementing future courses.
    • Participate in program planning in response to student program evaluation feedback.
    • Participate in assessment of Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLOs)
    • Participate in the evaluation of curriculum.

    Additional responsibilities for faculty teaching clinical courses:

    • Participate in clinical orientation as required by individual clinical agencies.
    • Make clinical assignments for students at the clinical setting, unless otherwise indicated.
    • Supervise students in patient care area in collaboration with agency staff.
    • Model professional behavior and standards of professional practice.
    • Conduct pre and post conferences with students.
    • Schedule make-up clinical as needed.
    • Provide timely ongoing verbal and written feedback to students.
    • Promote effective coping strategies for students experiencing stress in the clinical setting.
    • Keep the Department Chair informed regarding issues that arise with students and clinical sites.
    • Maintain professional relationships with clinical agencies.

    Advising

    • Participate in recruitment activities.
    • Post and keep a minimum of five office hours per week that are convenient to students who seek assistance with academic advising and coursework.
    • Assist students with course scheduling and provide academic guidance.
    • Schedule regular meetings with students who are at risk of being unsuccessful in a course or the nursing program.
    • Refer students having scholastic or other problems to appropriate student support services.
    • Communicate regularly and frequently with high school staff regarding dual credit student performance.
    • Develop remediation plans with students.
    • Assists students in identifying and utilizing resources that may contribute to their success.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of Phlebotomy Certificate Programs.
    • Knowledge of evidence-based teaching strategies.
    • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students, and the public.
    • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals (students, staff, faculty, public), including high school dual credit students, and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to effectively provide a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Ability to address multiple learning styles in classroom teaching. Experience with a variety of teaching resources.
    • Ability to maintain clinical competence in area of teaching.
    • Ability to introduce computer technology into the classroom and laboratory and willingness to explore new course delivery methods.
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to attend to details and meet deadlines.
    • Good computer software skills – Microsoft Office, email, and electronic calendar.
    • Ability to role model healthcare professional behaviors.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Current certificate in Phlebotomy.
    • Current healthcare provider CPR.
    • Previous teaching experience preferred; two years of full-time clinical experience in the areas of teaching responsibility preferred.
    • Associate's Degree or higher preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is normally performed in a classroom, clinical setting, and in an office setting.A minimum of thirty-five hours per week as necessary to complete job duties.

    Teaching load may be divided between theory and clinical instruction.

    • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
    • No or very limited physical effort required.
