    EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS:
    Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed.

    Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies.

    A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check.

    MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one's personal vehicle).

    Employees who travel must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver's license, and good driving record.

    All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening.

    All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduate of an accredited PA Program with a master's degree (doctorate preferred), OR prior experience in academia (PA educational experience preferred)
    • If a PA, eligible for Georgia Physician Assistant licensure, OR other licensure as appropriate to qualifications
    • If a PA, current NCCPA certification, OR other certification appropriate to qualifications
    • At least 3 years of prior clinical experience; other professional experience will be considered
    • Prior academic experience preferred
    • Ability to function well within a collegial, collaborative work environment

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    ROLE OF THE PRINCIPAL FACULTY:

    • The principal faculty member reports to the Chair and Program Director (Chair/PD). Principal faculty (PF) responsibilities are varied and may differ to some degree based upon the needs of the department
    • Generally, the tasks of the PF member are focused primarily on teaching, advising, service and scholarship. The PF member performs all other duties as directed by the Chair/PD, the Dean of the Ivester College of Health Sciences (ICHS), the Brenau University Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Brenau University President or designee.
    Scholarship


    • Remain current within his or her academic discipline and participate in professional academic venues.
    • Participate in faculty development and research within the mission of the University.
    • Actively promote scholarship among students.
    Teaching


    • Serve as Instructor for didactic courses and EOR seminars, as assigned.
    • Prepare syllabi, book lists, objectives and learning outcomes, as required.
    • Prepare assigned lectures using applicable technology.
    • Assume assigned role in test preparation and other methods of evaluating student performance.
    • Participate in text selection or other teaching modalities.
    • Assess student progress in assigned courses, prepare and submit final grades, and notify Directors of Didactic or Clinical Education, APD and/or Chair/PD of any at-risk students.
    • Instruct and supervise students in assigned clinical practice labs, simulation activities, and small group sessions.
    • Evaluate student performance in didactic and clinical courses (including written and practical exams and OSCEs) and program summative evaluation.
    • Critique student assignments and provide prompt feedback.
    • Conduct class evaluations and complete other evaluations in accordance with college and university policy.
    • Assist with student tutorial/remediation sessions.
    • Maintain student records and do appropriate follow up on all correspondence pertaining to students and course assignments and assessments.
    • Set annual personal and professional development goals, attending appropriate activities and conferences to meet goals.
    • Keep informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities.
    Advising

    As advisor of a specific number of students (advisees), the PF member shall:


    • Meet formally with each advisee a minimum of once during each semester of the program to review student performance.
    • Assess student's readiness for program progression after each semester.
    • Meet with any student who has performed unsatisfactorily either academically or professionally, to provide opportunities for the student to discuss his/her adjustment processes, approaches to meeting the expectations of the program and to assess for potential areas that can be addressed in an attempt to improve performance.
    • Refer students to counselors as needed.
    • Bring to faculty meetings for discussion information on any student considered at risk, needing additional monitoring, and/or requiring additional coursework of any other form of remediation to meet program-defined learning outcomes.
    • Maintain up-to-date records on student advisees and interactions with advisees.
    • Discuss with Chair/PD any student issues regarding an advisee's inability to successfully progress through the program.
    Service

    The PF member is expected to:

    • Attend and appropriately contribute to university-wide and ICHS faculty meetings.
    • Attend and appropriately contribute to departmental faculty and staff meetings, annual retreats and accreditation-related activities.
    • Participate in the development, revision, and annual updating of the program's mission statement and curricular materials.
    • Assist in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of curriculum, as assigned.
    • Participate in student admissions and interviewing processes, selecting appropriate applicants for admission.
    • Assist in the evaluation of clinical sites and preceptors, as assigned.
    • Assume responsibilities in grant-related projects as assigned.
    • Assist in ongoing programmatic evaluation, as assigned.
    • Assume other duties within the program when needed and feasible.
    • Serve as an elected or appointed representative on departmental, ICHS, and/or university committees, as assigned.
    Community Relations Within and Outside of Brenau


    • Serve as a representative of the department within the Brenau community through committee service, as assigned. Attend university-sponsored events and assist in the establishment of collegial relationships with other faculty and administrators.
    • Represent the university to the community in a professional and positive way through volunteer service, participation in community events, and professional affiliations.
    • Maintain a strong and visible presence in local, state, national and international professional activities.

    Environmental and Working Conditions:
    Normal environment found in an educational setting. Some exposure to outdoors and varying weather conditions may be required.


    Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
    Some lifting and or carrying objects weighing 25 + lbs may be required. General sensory capacities must be sufficient to perform routine duties as outlined above, including telephone and computer use. Strong cognitive skills as required for organization and judgment as outlined in duties. Emotional stability with capacity to manage periodic stressful interactions. Excellent attention to detail.


    Work Hours:
    37.5 hours per week. Generally Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5p.m. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.


    Home Campus Designation:
    This position is an on-ground position in Gainesville, GA.


    Licensure Requirements:
