MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


NY HELPS
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (
NY HELPS).


At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under
NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination.

Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.

While serving permanently in a
NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

NON-COMPETITIVE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master's degree AND New York State permanent or professional certification in Social Studies 712 AND four years of fulltime classroom teaching experience in Social Studies grades 712

PROMOTION:

Current New York State Education Department employees must have one year of permanent service as an Assistant in Instructional Services.

COMPETITIVE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Reassignment:

One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Associate in Instructional Services (Social Studies 7-12) and possess a New York State permanent or professional certification in Social Studies 7-12.


  • Master's degree AND New York State permanent or professional certification in Social Studies 712 AND four years of fulltime classroom teaching experience in Social Studies grades 712

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience implementing culturally responsive teaching practices; developing and/or selecting culturally responsive curricular materials, and/or leading initiatives related to culturally responsivesustaining education.
  • Experience developing and leading professional development workshops, courses, or programs.
  • Experience managing a grant program and/or budget experience.
  • Additional teaching experience in Special Education or teaching English Language Learners.
  • Uptodate job knowledge, including emerging trends in P12 education, maintained through participation in conferences and ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Active affiliation with professional organizations related to content area and P12 education.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Skill in fostering teamwork and building productive working relationships.
  • The ability to foster and maintain rapport with stakeholders and demonstrate an exceptional commitment to customer service and to delivering quality outcomes.

Duties Description

  • Provide technical assistance to school personnel, BOCES, districts, parents, and other stakeholders on P12 Social Studies instruction, the Social Studies Learning Standards, P12 instructional programs, civics education, and other NYSED priorities;
  • Conduct research, synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and write reports, grants, contracts, proposed regulatory and policy statements, guidance documents, and various informational materials;
  • Provide content expertise on instructional design, instructional practice, curricular materials, assessment models, and culturally responsivesustaining education in Social Studies at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels;
  • Develop and facilitate virtual and inperson presentations to a variety of stakeholders to provide information, guidance, and support on topics including the NYS Learning Standards for Social Studies, the NYS K12 Social Studies Framework, civics education, culturally responsivesustaining education, Office programs, and other NYSED priorities;
  • Administer a variety of programs to support P12 teaching and learning, including but not limited to competitive federal and State grant programs, contracts, and award programs, to ensure deliverables are on time and of high quality;
  • Communicate and collaborate with other NYSED offices, state professional organizations, and other stakeholder groups to provide information, guidance, support, and resources related to Social Studies, civics education, and other NYSED priorities; and
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Leads to a maximum salary of $121,360 based on annual performance advances.
