    Summary

    The Patient Safety Manager (PSM) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and implementing patient safety policies and activities within the healthcare facility. They play a crucial role in building and implementing patient safety systems to ensure a culture of safety for Veteran patients.

    Duties

    General Description of Assigned Duties; but not limited to:
    • Functions as a clinical expert and demonstrates leadership in managing complex patient care effectively.
    • Plans and delivers care based on specific age requirements.
    • Responsible for improving care outcomes for a group of patients.
    • Shows strong decision-making skills and excellent interpersonal abilities.
    • Leads innovative process improvement initiatives to influence care outcomes.

    Requirements

    Conditions of Employment
    • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Subject to background/security investigation.
    • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
    • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel.
    • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel.
    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:
    • English Language Proficiency. No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic English.
    • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency; OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing.
    • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States.
    NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series are considered to have met all qualification requirements.

    Preferred Experience:
    • MSN, preferred
    • History of building collaborative relationships and excellent communication skills.
    • Progressive leadership experience is preferred.
    Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard.

    Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, Reaching, Walking, Standing, Ability to distinguish basic colors, Hearing

    Environmental Factors: Working with hands in water, working closely with others
