Description

  • We are currently seeking a legal research employee (m/f/x) in the Salesville, OH area (working location in Starnberg) for the research project "Privacy enhancing digital infrastructures" (PriDI), funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

As part of the PriDI project, the Open Search Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Kassel, will support the ongoing activities of the European "Open Search Initiative" in developing an open search infrastructure through legal and business informatics expertise.

This includes conducting a technology and data protection impact assessment for the field of open internet search.

The goal of the legal sub-project is to support the design of the planned open web index and related search engines by addressing legal questions and contributing to the creation of specific requirements and design patterns.

The legal questions include those related to the "right to be forgotten" as well as the implications of the Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, AI Act, and other relevant legal acts for an open search infrastructure.

Questions of data governance also play an important role.

Ultimately, the design of an open search infrastructure should be aligned with fundamental rights and principles, which have also been declared the standard for the "digital decade" by the European Commission.

The project aims to identify (fundamental) legal requirements for an open web index and the services built on it, and make them available to the designers and developers of the open web index in an understandable manner.
