ASSIGNMENT DETAILS:

UC San Diego is hiring a temporary Cable Technician to support the campus operations for the School Year.


Duration:
This role is anticipated to last 1 month *with possible extension


Compensation:
$20.17 per hour.


Work Schedule:
Shift: 6:30am - 3:00pm


Location: 100% on-site university building near Mirarmar


DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, incumbent will assist a team of engineers supporting scientific research in the area of Structural Engineering. Maintenance and general operation of equipment, including material handling devices and electronic instruments. Use hand and power tools, measuring devices, and Machining tools. Fabricate, assemble and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Electronics; Good technical background and practical experience, broad knowledge and familiarity with electrical and mechanical concepts and devices.
  • Basic experience with machine shop equipment(i.e. lathe, milling machine, drill press, band saw and grinding equipment) involving various materials.
  • Posses a High School Diploma with knowledge of and working experience in basic math and principles of physics.
  • Data acquisition; experience or ability to learn computerized data collection skills.
  • Basic skills in electrical/electronic assembly, soldering, testing and maintenance.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with lab personnel, researchers and faculty.
  • Ability to work in "field like" conditions, i.e. scaffolding, ladders, and nonclimate controlled areas.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and shop safety procedures with regard to handling of hazardous/dangerous materials and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of PC operating systems, including and Microsoft Windows.
  • Familiarity with measuring systems, including calipers, micrometers and dial gages
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn experimental operation principles, data collection, and routine data analysis with emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Ability to do quality work, be conscientious, organized and prepare excellent documentation.
  • Ability to interact with researchers to determine requirements to achieve the desired test objectives

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Must be able to occasionally work evening and weekends as required to complete research projects.


This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18.

It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Annual Full Pay Range:
$42,115 - $49,256 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)


Hourly Equivalent:
$ $23.59
