The Assistant Operations Manager contributes to Mattress Firm's success by assisting in the efficient day-to-day operations of multiple functions within their assigned distribution center located in Solon, Ohio and ensures the distribution center (DC) provides world-class service to internal and external customers.

The Assistant Operations Manager contributes to Mattress Firm's success by assisting in the efficient day-to-day operations of multiple functions within their assigned distribution center, supervising members of the distribution center team, and contributing to meeting organizational financial objectives.
Assist in the efficient day-to-day operations of the distribution center.
Contribute to meeting overall financial objectives of the distribution center compared to budget.
Create and foster an environment of trust, open two-way communication, and cohesive team effort.
Ensure alignment with strategic vision and communicate organizational mission and values to the team.
Communicate with team members through regular and frequent meetings.
Hold one-on-one meetings with direct reports at least twice a month.
Ensure adherence to operational processes, policies, and procedures.
Ensure the distribution center meets company standards on appearance, cleanliness, and functionality.
Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives in the distribution center.
Facilitate resolution of customer service issues.
Verify driver payroll for accuracy.
Conduct required physical cycle counts, review discrepancies, and make appropriate corrections.
Ensure use of proper safety equipment and maintain a safe working environment by ensuring adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
Complete all required training modules and certifications prior to the due date.Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure a safe work environment for all.
Communicate professionally with all internal and external contacts.
Follow all Company policies and execute Company standards on appearance and functionality as well as appropriate brand representation.
Communicate any concerns or issues to leadership to ensure proper efficiency of department and company operations.
Execute team member performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and terminations when appropriate per Company policy.
Non-Essential Responsibilities
Participate in monthly DC-wide meetings to communicate organization and DC wins and opportunities and speak to any questions or concerns.
May be responsible for safety and other training and periodic retraining to all team members and contract employees in the DC.
May monitor employee time records and review and approve paid time off and leave of absence requests in accordance to policy and procedures.
May participate in interviewing and hiring process for potential DC team members.May manage the DC in the absence of the DC leader.
May be involved in coaching conversations and administering disciplinary actions.
May lead or participate in daily stand up meetings at the beginning of each shift or team meeting.
May take an active role in onboarding and training new DC team members.
Execute company initiatives and other activities requested by supervisor.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Contribute ideas on ways to optimize or improve the team, the department, and the Company.Education
High School diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor's Degree preferred
