About Carlos Z:
I’m a seasoned business intelligence, cloud programs, projects, and platforms lead that strives for top line growth and reducing bottom line risk. An Agile and Cloud FinOps practitioner, my experience spans the spectrum between Fortune 500 companies and startups. This is complemented by my background as an MBA, military veteran, and data analytics engineer which enables me to reduce
long term costs and inefficiencies, while integrating the people, process, technology, and data governance of teams and companies.
Whether I’m building new teams, managing cross-functional programs, or engaging executives, I believe that teamwork makes the dream work.
Experience
I’m a career manager and advisor in data analytics and engineering, program management, operations and more, with a sprinkling of software engineering. I have a bit of a nerd streak and pride myself in being easy to work with while sticking to the mission, and respecting other people's time as if it were my own.
I’ve worked as an intelligence analyst, an operations research analyst, business and tech consultant, strategy and planning lead, program manager, and cloud business intelligence and data engineering lead in my past. As a team lead I’ve designed cloud architectures for data lakes, migrations and integrations, big data processing such as Azure Databricks, and for tracking cloud spend across multiple vendor platforms in AWS such that reporting could evolve toward a cloud finops implementation.
I'm a Swiss army knife in terms of technology functions and in what it takes to build something from nothing -- I can wear many hats, adapt to any condition, I can be a jack of all trades -- this is my superpower. I've been resourceful since my days in the military and as a private military contractor, from having to do primary research for a $500M+ study for DoD to coming up with novel ways to do data extraction and keeping costs as low as possible, knowing how to execute even when there is no plan. As a professional technologist, I've often found ways to build relationships that lead to concrete organizations and groups for mentoring and learning, being able to walk in another's shoes to truly work as a team who understands each other's challenges.
My experience is diverse irrespective of my years, and I believe this gives me the ability to see a problem, a client, a company, or even an industry uniquely --- from top to bottom, able to identify root cause and solutioning quickly.
