General Description:


Reporting to the President, the Project Manager will oversee the development of a new campus facility that requires the renovation of approximately 160K square feet of vacant space in one of the college's four buildings.


Responsibilities include:


  • Serve as the liaison between the college's leadership team and key stakeholders, adding value to the construction of a privatelyfunded capital project.
  • Establish project governance/decisionmaking structure with key stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of RFPs and selection of consultants and contractors as needed.
  • Provide regular reports to college leadership on project progress, budgets, and construction schedule.
  • Establish project insurance and indemnification policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, CUNY, DASNY, NYC DOB, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Review, interpret, and provide feedback on contractorprovided documents, drawings and specifications.
  • Provide support for and/or lead construction contract negotiations.
  • Represent college in contract/payment discussions with contractors.
  • Assist in cash flow forecasting and processing of payment requests.
  • Review, verify, and approve contractor progress billings.
  • Maintain document control for all project related documents including contractual agreements, insurance, budgets, construction documents, change order logs, weekly status reports, project meeting minutes, etc.
  • Coordinate with the college's Facilities Management team and CUNY to mitigate change orders and to ensure that construction is undertaken properly and in a timely and costeffective manner.
  • Work closely with the college to minimize disruption to academic and administrative operations.
  • Review commissioning, quality assurance, and quality control work in collaboration with the college's Facilities Management team and contractors.
  • Work with Facilities Management team, asset manager, and O&M provider to facilitate field visits and construction document review in anticipation of project substantial completion and occupancy.
  • Coordinate and host site tours as needed for key constituents and end users.

Qualifications:


  • 10+ years relevant work experience in project management/real estate development/construction.
  • Experience with construction contract administration.
  • Experience with PLAs and in union and/or prevailing wage environments.
  • Knowledge of construction practices.
  • Experience in managing projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Relevant project management experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, MSWord, MS Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Education: Degrees or Certificates in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field preferred.

LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than 60 associate degree and certificate programs. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce.
