Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

Water Safety I ($22.30 per hour): Must have the required certifications.

Water Safety II ($22.80 per hour): Must have the required certifications and one (1) season of teaching experience.


Applicants must take and pass Certification Training offered by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Certifications include:


  • Star Fish Aquatics Water Safety Educator;
  • StarGuard Lifeguard
  • CPR for Adult, Child & Infant
  • First Aid.

  • The purpose of this City of Austin Parks and Recreation
    Water Safety I and II position is to provide aquatic safety and training to the staff and patrons of the City of Austin Aquatics facilitates across the City.

Required Training/Certifications/Age Requirements:


  • Training for applicants will be offered by the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department
  • Aquatic Division.
  • 16 and 17 year old applicants require parent signatures on the applicant paperwork.
  • Applicants must successfully pass the 40+ hour Lifeguard Training course to be considered for the Lifeguard position.
  • Returning Lifeguard applicants (with current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications issued within the last year from the date of training) will be required to take a review course in lieu of the 40+ hour class required for new lifeguards.

Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Work environment includes inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases and mists. Tolerate loud noise associated with enthusiasm and excitement. Work outdoors in any and all types of weather and or inclement conditions; and in confined spaces at time. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with participant's needs and safety issues.

Travel: If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin
Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Tobacco and Vape-Free Workplace: PARD work site locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any PARD work site - including construction sites, parking lots, garages or in any personal vehicles located on the premises.


Pay Range
- $ $22.80 per hour.
Hours

Days and Hours:


  • Work shifts and locations will vary, up to 40 hours per week.
  • Evenings, Weekends, & Holidays may be required.
  • May be required to work during special events outside the normal hours for programming needs.
  • May be required to work during city emergencies such as extreme weather events.
