    Position Overview:
    The IT Systems Administrator Sr will provide daily oversight and administration of high availability, business essential database applications. Under minimal supervision, organize and manage major/highly complex information/ technology projects that are part of the strategic, key technology direction related to database applications utilized by Public Safety agencies. The person in this role will be responsible for project planning coordination, resource, budget management, system integration and overall administration of mission critical systems.

    About EMS :
    The Emergency Medical Services department is responsible for managing critical time-sensitive life-threatening emergencies. While most of the assistance EMS gives to the community is medical in nature, everything we do is about service: service to our patients, their families and loved ones; service to our community; and service to the people who make up Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

    LANGUAGE :

    Must have the ability to read, write, and fluently speak English.

    TRAVEL :If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience managing and supporting information technology systems for an Emergency Medical Services or other Public Safety organization.
    • Experience communicating in a clear and concise manner to effectively convey complex and detailed technical information, both verbally and in writing.
    • Experience working with a data capture, reporting, and personnel management software such as FDM RMS , ESO , or any other similar application.
    • Experience working with SQL Server Management Studio and Windows Server or any other similar systems.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Performs advanced focused architecting, optimizing, implementing, configuring, managing, administering, troubleshooting, maintaining and monitoring one or more of the following: infrastructure software, hardware, systems/applications, middleware, servers/storage, and IP-based telecommunications.
  • Establishes and implements IT policies, governance, standards, and security.
  • Makes independent decisions for procurement of technical solutions in their focus area.
  • Creates, documents, publishes, and/or performs maintenance procedures and ensures all installations are in accordance with COA's specifications and IT standards/governance.
  • Assists in planning, designing, procuring and delivering software and hardware purchases.
  • Ensures appropriate product specifications.
  • Provides cost analysis.
  • Installs new specific software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing and implementing new technology.
  • Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing, including fault tolerance and detailed disaster recovery plan maintenance.
  • Communicates and interfaces with members of the IT, vendor and user communities.

    • Skill in documenting and maintaining complex application and process or configuration information
    • Skill in providing day-to-day system/application administration and/or system/application administration in support in a variety of work environments
    • Skill in installing and maintaining applications, operating systems, or equipment
    • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and to implement solutions
    • Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new concepts
    • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
    • The ability to view the big picture when involved in a project and make decisions
    • The ability to quickly become familiar with emerging technologies
