- Abstracts and codes Ambulatory Surgery and/or Outpatient Records accurately and timely in accordance with regulatory agencies and corporate guidelines/criteria.
- Ability to achieve a 95% accuracy rate as determined by an annual review of coding and/or department quality review(s)
- Analyzes medical records to identify documentation deficiencies and provides feedback to physicians
- Research and analyze data needed for reimbursement purposes
- Provides feedback to physicians and billing staff on updates in coding guidelines
- Serves as a subject matter expert to physicians and revenue cycle staff
- Participates in continually assessing and improving departmental performance
- Maintains an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with Company policies.
- Keeps commitments and keep direct supervisor informed of work progress, timetables, and issues.
- Maintains strict compliance with State, Federal and other regulations (e.g., OSHA, WC, HIPAA, ADA, FEHA, DOL, HR policies and practices).
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Required Certificated Professional Coder - CPC (AAPC); or AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P); or AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information
- This is primarily an office classification. Temperature conditions are controlled with limited direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, keyboard, to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, see, talk and hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or carry reports, records and other materials that typically weigh less than 20 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch.

The Certified Coder is responsible for accurately abstracting and coding ASC and Outpatient Records in a timely manner. This position maintains a high level of communication skills, confidentiality, attention to detail, and professionalism.
