Research Lab Tech I, Newborn Medicine


We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our dynamic research team as a Research Assistant on-site at Brigham & Women's Hospital.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and other lab personnel the Research Assistant will be responsible for facilitating all aspects of lab operations from beginning to end to ensure adequate supplies and infrastructure to conduct the lab's experiments.

The research is being performed within the Department of Pediatrics at Brigham & Women's Hospital and is focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying oxidative stress induced cardiac dysfunction and heart failure.

We are using classical methods of gene and protein analysis, cellular and molecular biology functional studies, high throughput studies and animal physiology and imaging studies.


The Research Assistant will be responsible for facilitating numerous unified procedures such as maintaining lab inventories, ordering supplies, making reagents, processing biological specimens, keeping lab records, maintain lab equipment and conducting experiments.

Other duties involve participating in lab meetings, assisting the PI and lab personnel in maintaining regulatory compliance such as preparing animal protocols, and assisting with grant and manuscript submissions.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates, organizes and maintains lab inventories and databases and prepares charts for review by the study investigator.
  • Performs literature searches, as appropriate.
  • Assists PIs with preparation for presentation and written published articles.
  • Orders lab supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Assists PIs with administrative tasks including scheduling, meeting coordination, preparation of meeting materials, etc.
  • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues. Attends meetings as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required:
Bachelor's degree at an accredited four-year institution


Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in biomedical sciences
  • Good background in cellular and molecular biology techniques and/or animal physiology and/or high throughput studies

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong knowledge of wordprocessing and operating computer software programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel and some knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Careful attention to detail.
