    Each year refugees and immigrants come to the United States to seek a better life and/or protection from persecution in their home country. To help them build their lives in the United States, International Institute of St. Louis offers pro-bono and low-bono legal services for these refugees and immigrants by providing competent and comprehensive immigration legal services.

    The Immigration Application Assistant must enjoy working in an environment that is mission-driven and community-oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. The Immigration Application Assistant must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    • Prepare and submit various applications. (ie. Family reunification, affidavit of relation, etc.)
    • Submit requests for more documents from respective application adjudication offices.
    • Prescreen immigration services customers to determine immigration needs and eligibility.
    • Schedule appointments for clients for immigration services
    • Provide monthly reports of status of applications.
    • Maintain accurate records
    • Perform other administrative tasks and appropriate duties as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities

    • Ability to prioritize, effectively manage multiple projects
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of client and company information.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from different ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree OR equivalent experience.
    • Administrative experience, 1-3 years
