Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Breast Care ProviderFox Chase Cancer Center is seeking an Advance Practice Provider, to join the surgical breast service for management and care of breast patients.
The Breast Care Adult Oncology Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (APN/PA) assesses, diagnoses, prescribes therapies, and manages the benign breast patient's and breast cancer patient's diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment follow up through survivorship.
The Breast Care APN/PA manages patients who present with asymptomatic or symptomatic breast complaints or are referred for concerns regarding breast and locoregional issues.
The Breast Care APN/PA initiates appropriate evaluation by examination, ordering of appropriate diagnostic studies and coaches women undergoing diagnostic breast studies and treatments, as needed.
Such entities span the gamut of elective and urgent breast care, including but not limited to benign conditions such as breast pain, fibrocystic change, fibroadenomas, high risk benign disease, and breast infections, to frankly malignant breast conditions.
In addition to evaluation, the breast care APN/PA responds to patient phone calls and concerns, educates about evaluation and treatment options, facilitates necessary appointments, and provides counseling.
The breast care APN/PA is involved in post-evaluation and post-treatment follow up and care, including relaying of pathology and its implications, and facilitating referral to appropriate specialties for treatment.
The Breast Care APN/PA should be familiar with breast care treatment options and be able to counsel patients about the reasons for those referrals.
The Breast Care APN/PA will participate in preoperative and postoperative care as an outpatient.The Breast Care APN/PA will also participate in drain care management and removal, assessment and management of wound issues, and shall be responsible for assuring that patients receive optimal and timely education, treatment and support.
The Breast Care APN/PA will also have a survivor clinic for management of long-term cancer survivorship, maintaining continuity of care.
The breast care APN/PA shall learn from breast team members but also exhibit self-education actively in order to strive to advance their own knowledge and skills and benefit patients.
The breast care APN/PA will serve as an integral part of the breast team, and assist the team if the team is clinically occupied and a clinical need arises.
The breast care APN/PA shall maintain a collaborative relationship with members of the multidisciplinary team, be responsible for accurate and complete medical records documentation and work in collaboration with supervising physicians for the appropriate evaluation and treatment of breast patients.
The Breast Care APN/PAHighly competitive candidates have at least one to two years of surgical nursing or practice experience, with possible breast or oncology experience most optimal.
The candidate should be a graduate of an approved graduate nursing program as MSN or MN Clinical Specialty - Oncology, or alternatively as a graduate of an approved Physician Assistant program.
The APN/PA should be able to care for patients treated with breast cancer and those patients requiring special precautions. The position is salaried, full time, and on-site 5 days per week.It is a self-contained 100-bed institution with a commitment to teaching and advancement of the cancer field, with fellowships in Breast Surgery, Complex General Surgical Oncology, Plastics Microsurgery, Advanced Minimally-Invasive Thoracic Surgery, Gynecologic Oncology, Urological Oncology, Head and Neck Surgery, Hematology-Oncology, Surgical Pathology, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, among other training programs.
Surgical residents from multiple institutions, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, medical students, physician assistant students, and others, are important parts of the team.
