The Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Finance, is recruiting to fill two Financial Specialist

  • Advanced level vacancies. These positions would be stationed out of the DNR Headquarters in Madison, WI. Telework is available for up to 60% of the work week
This recruitment may also be used to fill future similar permanent, project and/or LTE vacancies in the near future.

Position Summary:


DNR Financial Specialists provide high quality and responsive customer service to internal and external customers including other state agencies, other bureaus, auditors, customers and vendors.

They are responsible for accounting functions including but not limited to:

audits, review of invoices and/or payments with contracts and purchase orders, check handling, validation of transaction validity and accuracy (auditing), resolution of financial errors, monitor encumbrance balances, generation and/or reconciliation of reports, customer service/consultation to agency staff and customers and/or vendors on general program rules and requirements, and management of department financial records and documents.


This person will work directly with finance staff, department staff, DOA, customers, and/or vendors to resolve discrepancies and provide financial documentation as appropriate.

They will also provide general business support to the bureau; in addition to participating as an active member of the bureau by attending and participating at bureau and section meetings, and on other teams as assigned.

Salary Information:


Starting pay for the Financial Specialist - Advanced is $29.00 per hour ($60,320 annually) in pay schedule and range 02-15.

Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. Starting pay may vary for current State employees.

This position includes an excellent benefits package, including health care, vacation, sick leave, and retirement benefits. A 12-month probationary period may be required.


Job Details:

These positions may require periodic travel throughout the state with occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications:


Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications.

Required qualifications include experience with all of the following:

  • Processing financial documents/transactions, such as account reconciliation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.
  • Utilizing spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel) to perform work
  • Explaining technical information (such as financial concepts, accounting procedures, stepbystep instructions, etc.) to nonexperts
  • Working with customers, vendors, or other staff to resolve financial/accounting errors or issues

Best-qualified applicants will also have experience with at least one of the following:

  • Using financial data systems, such as Oracle, SAS, or especially PeopleSoft ERP for financial/accounting purposes
  • Associates degree or higher in accounting, finance, economics, business, or similar
  • Leading a team or group to accomplish a goal
  • Collecting, manipulating and/or analyzing data
