- Provides field administration, coordination, and enforcement of the forest tax laws and policy development in collaboration with the Tax Law Leadership and Statewide Program Specialists.
- Internal and external consultant for staff, leadership, inter-divisional teams, and partner groups.
- Maintains cutting-edge knowledge and expertise in the forest tax laws and silviculture by staying abreast of current research and maintaining an effective professional network.
- Works with stakeholders including Division staff with private forestry responsibilities, as well as colleagues throughout the Department and key partner groups, including corresponding external customers (small non-industrial private landowners).

- Experience or education in Forest Management, such as administering/implementing forest management operations or developing/reviewing forest management plans.

- Current certification as a Tree Farm Inspector
- Certified Plan Writer (CPW) designation
- Experience administering forestry contracts, such as timber sales, tree planting, site preparation, invasive species, or timber site improvement
- Experience with Geographical Information System (GIS) software
- Experience performing at least one of the following managed forest law activities:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry (or higher-level degree) from a program accredited by the Society of American Foresters
- Bachelor's degree in natural resources with passing coursework in Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Ecology, and Forest Mensuration (i.e., measurement, sampling, mapping/photo interpretation)
- Current certification as a Certified Forester from the Society of American Foresters (or an international equivalent
- Experience providing professional customer service and collaborating with internal or external customers to accomplish a goal

Telework:
Based on an assessment of the goals and work activities, this position may be eligible for telework. Telework approval is based on individual circumstances and is subject to supervisor approval and DNR telework policies. Approval is subject to change without notice based on business needs.
Travel:
This position requires frequent travel with some overnights.
The selected candidate must meet the requirements for traveling and operating a State vehicle, including the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors:
Employee could be exposed to temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of an hour or more, and temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy.
The candidate must be at least 18 years of age with 2 years driving experience.Candidates with three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years, or who have an OWI/DUE violation within the past year are not eligible to drive state vehicles.
Probation:
A 12-month probationary period will be required. The classification title for this position is Forestry Specialist (schedule 15, range 03). This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is nonexempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Background Check:
Finalists for this position may be required to allow DNR to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
