- Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
- Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
- Ensures proper imaging techniques related to patients age and ability to understand procedure (sight, hearing needs, ability to cooperate) to ensure image quality is successfully obtained.
- Reviews patient information and interpretation of data to confirm an appropriate plan and intervention specific for age related needs and provision of care.
- Performs nuclear medicine imaging and therapy in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
- Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results.
- Orders, prepares, administers, stores and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
- Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies in the Clinical Nuclear Medicine rooms.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or registered as a Radiologic Technologist (RT) and certified in Nuclear Medicine (NM) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Career Ladder:
The three bands within this position are differentiated by level of independence, supervision required, ability to precept new employees in the use of all equipment, and the ability to lead and meet established departmental goals.
Band One (I): Entry Level Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Technologists new to URMC Nuclear Medicine Imaging Department who require training as well as regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior technologist.
During this period the Technologists must demonstrate an ability to progress towards proficient and competent performance of required tasks of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Success within this band requires independent responsibility for performing Nuclear Medicine studies in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paper and computer documentation while providing high quality images for radiologist interpretation.
Band Two (II): Competent Nuclear Medicine Technologist - With minimal supervision, demonstrates proficiency, consistency and competence in all aspects of job responsibilities and expectations.
Completes all associated paper and computer work for discharging patients from the Nuclear Medicine department with appropriate post procedure instructions.
Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental committees.
Band Three (III): Advanced Nuclear Medicine Technologist - In addition to the responsibilities of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist Band Two, serves as a preceptor in the onboarding of newly hired Technologists directly orienting to equipment, imaging routines and procedures, computer programs and software, as well as departmental and hospital policies.
Possesses subject matter expertise in several different areas of nuclear Medicine that could include, but not limited to diagnostic and therapeutic exams and clinical trials, and competently operating a variety of different vendor platforms and performing departmental QA procedures.
Responsible for effectively troubleshooting issues that arise within the department and deal with accordingly.
A Band Three technologist is considered a subject matter expert in downtime procedures and acts as super-user when new equipment or programs are introduced to the department.
Assists in other areas of the department when the need arises such as assignments to other Nuclear Medicine sites outside of the main department.
Able to represent the department on various committees such as safety, quality, and operations groups. Takes responsibility to prepare the department and staff for NYS and TJC evaluations. Assists in advanced radiopharmaceutical regulatory policies, special radiopharmaceutical ordering, advanced radiopharmaceutical treatments and clinical trials. Assists in all aspects of ACR accreditation as well as ACR readiness. Facilitates new policies and procedures to staff. Serves as a resource to the supervisors for special projects as assigned.Select Band Three Technologists may be designated as Leads to support operations on various shifts. Leads may either assist their shift supervisor, or in the absence of a supervisor, determine workflow and staff schedule/assignments. Leads may also provide performance evaluation input to the section supervisor.
Band Three status minimally requires 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred.
Readiness for movement in the bands is assessed by the Nuclear Medicine Manager and supervisor upon successful demonstration of knowledge and task proficiency as defined in the career ladder.
Movement to a higher band is based on departmental need requires final approval from the Imaging Sciences Clinical Director of Operations in collaboration with Human Resources.
Employees hired externally with appropriate credentials and relevant experience may enter the career bands as a Band Three to serve in a Lead roleHow To Apply
