    SUPERVISION NEEDED FOR JOB - Duties will be performed under the general supervision of the ESC Director of Student Services and/or District Director of Student Services.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Special Education, or other social services/related field
    • Possess or be able to apply for an Ohio Department of Education license as either an Intervention Specialist; Education of the Handicapped; Ohio Pupil Services License; Counselor License; or Administrative License
    • Prior experience working with individuals with severe emotional disabilities preferred

    JOB SUMMARY

    Under the direction of the ESC Director of Student Services and/or the District Director of Student Services, the Behavior Support Coordinator will provide training, support, and coordination of activities related to the implementation of positive behavior supports throughout the school environment.

    This position involves case management and the development of behavior plans for at-risk and students receiving special education services.

    The Behavior Support Coordinator will be responsible for assessing students with behavior issues; collecting data on students; working with teachers, counselors, and school psychologists to devise a behavior plan for the student; and evaluating the effectiveness of the plan.

    The Coordinator will train and support school staff on classroom management strategies and/or the implementation of behavioral strategies to ensure students are provided with the supports they need in order to access their curriculum in the Least Restrictive Environment.

    The Coordinator will work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, aides, and support staff to demonstrate best practices, strategies and techniques to enhance instruction for students with social, communication, behavioral and learning challenges; train and assist in writing Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans; and complete other related work as required.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

    • Provide educational resources, training, technical assistance to site administrators, special education teachers, and support staff in the design, implementation, and evaluation of behavior management systems designed to meet the needs of students with behavioral challenges, in accordance with all directives, standards, procedures, policies, laws, rules, regulations, codes and guidelines
    • Collaborate with staff to assist with/provide consultation for administering Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and developing behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
    • Conduct functional behavior assessments and present data to IEP teams
    • Observe students to gather information and provide input for IEP development and program implementation
    • Collect data via direct student observation and consultation with classroom teachers regarding student behaviors and recommend appropriate instructional modifications to support positive student behavior; Identify and implement appropriate interventions for students in need of additional assistance
    • Monitor the fidelity of implementation for instructional procedures and behavior intervention plans using observations, checklists, etc.
    • Work directly with teachers to support student behavioral goals and implementation of behavior intervention plans;
    • Develop behavior intervention programs and train and support teachers in monitoring implementation within the classroom;
    • Facilitate professional learning sessions in techniques for crisis and safe physical management of students
    • Plan and deliver professional development to staff related to disability awareness, disability characteristics, and techniques to address behavioral needs of students
    • Serve as a resource to provide formal and informal training, supervision, guidance and assistance to students, educators, parents, service providers and agencies, as needed;
    • Plan and oversee the development and implementation of programs, policies and best practices related to instruction of students with emotional disabilities
    • Participate on committees established to improve supports for students and staff within a tiered service delivery model
    • Create materials to provide behavioral supports that align with academic, social language, and behavioral programming
    • Keep current with issues, laws and regulations regarding positive behavior interventions, special education, educational trends, and other issues related to children with exceptional needs
    • Document program results, maintain accurate records and other required data, prepare and submit reports in a timely manner
    • Maintain required documentation (e.g., reports, logs, summaries) related to program/school assignment support
    • Consult with administrators, psychologists, teachers and parents, serve as an integral member of the IEP team, attend meetings and parent conferences, as needed
    • Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality;
    • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES

    • Participate in opportunities to improve skills and grow professionally; attend all required meetings and in-services
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

    • Knowledge of Ohio's Operating Standards for the Education of Students with Disabilities
    • Knowledge and understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with behavior disorders - e.g. autism, intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and other behavior issues
    • Knowledge of FERPA and HIPPA
    • Knowledge of current educational issues and best practices
    • Knowledge of effective intervention strategies related to intervention for students with behavioral challenges
    • Knowledge of mandated assessment tools
    • Knowledge of community agencies that can support students with disabilities
    • Knowledge of classroom management techniques
    • Knowledge of problem solving processes and creative thinking skills
    • Ability to coordinate staff schedules for training
    • Ability to identify children's strengths and areas of weakness and implement a program to enhance their development
    • Ability to maintain accurate student records
    • Ability to observe and assess skills in all areas of development
    • Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data
    • Ability to evaluate related services staff members
    • Ability to use technology as both a productivity tool and as a method of communication; proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google applications
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, co-workers, administrators, and public
    • Ability to work with teachers to demonstrate ways of supporting students in the regular classroom
    • Skill in effective group and individual counseling, family intervention, crisis intervention, development of home/school collaboration
    • Ability to work with team to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate program progress and implement changes
    • Ability to model ethical principles and democratic ideals for students and the community
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS - While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

    • Stand for periods of time, move around the work site, move from one work site to another, sit at a desk
    • Stoop, kneel or crouch to assist students
    • Occasionally lift and/or move materials up to fifty pounds
    • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders by talking and listening
    • Operate a computer and other technology devices
    • Read and analyze data (close visual acuity)

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Noise level may escalate in group or event settings.
    • May include exposure to disease and infections.
    • Exposure to inclement weather when traveling from one work site to another
    • May be required to deal with students with behavioral risks
    • May require local/regional/statewide travel
    • May also require attendance at meetings outside of regular work hours (e.g. early morning, evening).
    • Involves stress as a result of the responsibility to ensure that laws, regulations and procedural rules are followed, the responsibility of dealing with individual student concerns and maintaining student discipline, and the demands of maintaining effective communication with other staff members, students and parents.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the ESC of Lake Erie West
    • Complete a satisfactory background check
    • Possess a valid driver's license or have transportation
    • Review the ESC Staff Handbook as well as Board Policy to understand job expectations
