This position will be responsible for coordinating WGVU's education and family engagement efforts associated with young children and their parents/caregivers/families.

Working within the WGVU broadcast area, this position builds relationships and promotes WGVU, PBS, NPR, and Michigan Learning Channel (MLC) programming and resources, while working in partnership with local early childhood programs and organizations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build partnerships with WGVU viewing area organizations and programs that serve young children and families. Leverage and support WGVUbased education content, resources, and curriculumbased support materials from Michigan Learning Channel (MLC), PBS Children's Media and Education (CME), and other public media programs and resources while additionally coordinating opportunities to build out new content areas that are important to early childhood stakeholders and families.
  • Coordinate, compose, and execute communications to families within the station's viewing area about programming, digital resources, special events, and workshops. Create and execute promotional materials targeted toward parents/caregivers of young children for onair messaging, social media messaging, and more. Collect testimonials and best practices on how families and educators are using WGVU, MLC, and PBS resources and assets.
  • Propose, plan, and execute family playgroups, parent workshops, special events, and other opportunities that include the usage of WGVU Education assets for families and young children. Coordinate, plan, and align resources, activities, and events with locally important events and opportunities tied to specialized audiences in conjunction with PBS, CME, MLC, and WGVU Education promotional campaigns.
  • Participate in the development, coordination, planning, and implementation of WGVU Education programming and content, along with station work, including social media and weekly education newsletter content; webpage and blog content; PBS LearningMedia content projects; PreK12 professional learning events; education and community events; WGVU and WGVU Education events; family engagement opportunities; proposals and grant work; and WGVU Education content, marketing, and promotion strategies.
  • Maintain current understanding of effective educational pedagogies and best practices; general knowledge of local, state, and national PreK12 education issues/policies; EdTech trends, apps, platforms, and tools; and State of Michigan and National PreK12 Academic Standards.
  • Support other WGVU projects, initiatives, and events, as assigned by leadership.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's or associate's degree in early childhood education, elementary or preelementary education, child development, social work, library sciences, child and family life, or related field.
  • Minimum of three to five (35) years of experience working with young children (birth to age 8) and families in: Early Childhood or Elementary Education, Home Visiting, Family Engagement, Libraries, Recreation or Communitybased Programs, or similar/related setting.
  • Family and community engagement experience.
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively and complete tasks independently.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to strategically manage multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using digital/technological tools in virtual and inperson environments.
  • Commitment to WGVU's vision of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work on location as needed.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bilingual Skills (English and Spanish).
  • Experience with Microsoft Workplace Tools and Google for Education Tools.
  • Experience with Zoom or other Virtual Conferencing Platforms.
  • Licensed/certified in Michigan or NBCT.

Salary:

$42,000 - $45,000, commensurate with experience, plus

  • Adjunct EAP Staff Benefits

Work is performed primarily in an office and broadcast studio environment; this position should be prepared for occasional work on location as travel may be required.
