Amazons Sponsored TV team is looking for an Applied Science Manager to lead Performance Optimization for Sponsored TV. Sponsored TV is on a mission to redefine the advertising experience on streaming TV, delivering highly relevant and effective ads enhance the viewing experience. In this role you will shape an early stage business, driving science into the heart of a nascent product and having an impact on millions of viewers. This is a greenfield project in which we are redefining every aspect of the viewer and advertiser experience.
A qualified candidate will possess strong applied science skills with experience working on sourcing, ranking or relevance in the areas of search or advertising. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and be eager to dig in and get the job done. You will manage and enable the developers on your team to successfully deliver projects. You will regularly communicate with senior management and other stakeholders on status, risks and regularly acquire executive sponsorship for cross team initiatives. You will work on some of Amazons hardest problems. This is a highly visible program across multiple organizations where you will have the opportunity to have a huge impact.
Key job responsibilities
Define and execute a research & development roadmap for the Sponsored TV Performance Optimization team that appropriately balances near-term incremental improvements with long-term vision
Lead a team of motivated scientists and software engineers to deliver solutions utilizing ML and other advanced algorithms to solve business problems.
Design and execute experiments, and analyze experimental results in collaboration with Product Managers, Data Engineers, Economists, and other specialists.
Leverage industry best practices to establish repeatable applied science practices, principles & processes.
Establish and drive operational excellence best practices to ensure the team consistently produces and maintains high quality software.
Work with Product Management to define current and future use-cases and align them with the Performance Optimization teams R&D efforts

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
6+ years of applied research experience
Knowledge of machine learning approaches and algorithms
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application
Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $147,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
