- Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
- Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in ensuring the State's infrastructure is safe, reliable, dependable, and sustainable. For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.
The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:
Sign-On Bonus – Incentives are based on the position classification:
Incentives are paid three months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware

Summary Statement
The Traffic Safety Engineer applies maintenance of traffic standards to highway construction projects, primarily the Delaware MUTCD and the Delaware Work Zone Safety & Mobility Procedures & Guidelines. Primary duties include drafting detours, writing Transportation Management Plans, reviewing MOT/phasing plans, detours and TMPs designed by others, attending MOT/phasing meetings. Additional duties may include traffic engineering software analysis, assist OSOW program, guardrail analysis, crash history, and participating in planned special events and unplanned incidents or emergencies.Career Ladder
