Ladder Ranch is a 155,307-acre property located in Sierra County, south-central New Mexico. Sierra County is rural and has a low population density.
The Ranch straddles two southwestern ecoregions; the eastern portion lies along the northern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert ecoregion, an area typified by an arid climate and grass-shrub vegetation with limited, isolated surface water.
The western portion of the Ranch lies along the eastern edge of the Arizona-New Mexico Mountains ecoregion, an area of highlands that includes juniper savannas and ponderosa pine/white fir forest.
Ladder Ranch headquarters is located approximately 25 miles southwest of Truth or Consequences, NM (population 6,475). Las Cruses, NM is 76 miles from ranch headquarters and is the closest large city. Albuquerque, NM is 177 miles north and El Paso, TX is 119 miles south of ranch headquarters.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibility of the Biological Technician will work closely with the TEM Senior Biological Technician with Chiricahua leopard frog (CLF) recovery and Mexican wolf conservation actions on the Ladder Ranch.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Husbandry in the
CLFbreeding facility.
Conduct
CLFpopulation surveys and monitoring.
Perform amphibian disease testing.
CLF translocations.
Handle habitat improvement and maintenance.
Assist with husbandry in the Mexican wolf facility.
Maintain and check wildlife camera traps across the Ranch.
Conduct wolf observations.
Assist with wolf captures.
Safely operate UTVs.
Assist with other conservation projects on and off the ranch as needed.
Participate in ranch safety program and ranch meetings.
All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must have an undergraduate degree in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Management, or related field. Prior field work experience is highly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The employee must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The employee must be able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
The employee must be able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
The employee must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
If position requires operation of a vehicle, the employee must possess a valid Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must adhere to Company and Ranch policies and procedures, which are included in the Company's Employee Handbook.
The employee must present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire, pursuant to federal law.
The candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work).
Random drug tests are given throughout the year.The employee will be responsible for providing own transportation for personal needs.
The Company operates as a drug free/smoke free workplace.
Smoking is not allowed on the Ranch property, to include but is not limited to; Ranch housing, Ranch vehicles, Ranch offices or on Ranch machines.
Flexibility with scheduling and physical and mental resiliency as this project takes place in a remote setting.Must provide own cell phone to use while working remotely.

Typically, the Biological Technician will be expected to work 5 days a week (M-F) and up to 40 hours/week; however, the work schedule may require slightly shorter or longer workdays or weeks depending on the weeks' task schedule and the weather.
