Paid Time Off:

RI's _Healthy and Safe Families and Workplaces Act_ gives employees the right to take time off from work to care for themselves if they are sick, are injured, or have a routine medical appointment.

They may also use earned leave to deal with the impact of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

In addition, they may use earned leave to assist their child, spouse, domestic partner or other member for their household for the same purposes.

Part-time staff receive up to 40 hours maximum per calendar year that can be used for these specific purposes. This earned leave accrues at 1 hour earned for every 35 hours worked.


Status:
Part-time, non-exempt.


Requirements:


  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Obtain Serv-Safe Food Handlers certification within 30 days of employment (certification course fee to be paid by BGCP)
  • At least 1 year of food service work experience
  • Ability to obtain clearances for all required background checks, including but not limited to national and state criminal background checks, state child abuse registry checks, drug test (for illegal drugs), reference checks, and previous employment verifications.
  • Previous work experience in a youth organization (preferred).

Overview:


The Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence serves free meals and/or snacks to our club members, following guidelines of the Federal Food Service Program, administered through the U.S.

Department of Education, and following health and safety requirements and guidelines of the RI Department of Health, DHS, and City of Providence Board of Health.


Lunches and dinners are prepared off-site by a professional catering company (a RIDE-approved CACFP vendor) and delivered to our program sites daily (Monday through Friday).


Duties of the Food Service Attendant include the following:

  • Obtain and maintain Serv-Safe certification (Food Handlers License).
  • Receive caterer's food delivery at program site, and put food and materials where needed (kitchen, refrigerator, freezer, serving area, etc.) to prepare for food preparation and serving.
  • Take and record food temperatures upon delivery, and as required at other points in the food service process, following RI Department of Health, DHS, and Serv-Safe requirements and guidelines.
  • Check that preparation and serving areas, and all equipment and utensils and materials, are clean and sanitary, to standards of the RI Department of Health, DHS, and Serv-Safe requirements. Perform any cleaning or sanitization as needed, prior to food preparation. Daily checklists will be provided.
  • Alert your supervisor to any actual or potential food safety issues immediately.
  • When it is time for food preparation/meal assembly, arrange food as needed for efficient preparation/assembly. Assemble and package as needed, with strict attention to health and safety requirements.
  • Serve food to youth members.
  • Track and record food service program attendance, following sitespecific directions and required attendance forms.
  • Following food preparation, store unused food items following health and safety requirements (record temperatures as required; ensure timely refrigeration, use proper storage containers as directed; etc.).
  • Following meal distribution, clean and sanitize food preparation and serving areas, and equipment and materials, as required. Store food and materials. Gather trash and dispose of as directed.
  • Direct youth helping with meal serving, with primary emphasis on safe food handling procedures.
