    OverviewDue to continued growth, TRC Field Services (FSV) is seeking additional Field Service Engineers to support our Client Teams across the United States and includes the regions: Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Southeast and Midwest.

    With a staff of over 200 experienced utility and industrial commissioning engineers and test technicians, TRC delivers comprehensive, cost-effective solutions safely to our clients while providing the best training programs and mentors in this industry and numerous opportunities for growth with excellent benefits.

    Field Service Engineers report to the Operations Manager, Testing and Commissioning Services and are responsible for conducting tests on complex electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment.

    Field Service Engineers test electrical equipment including but not limited to:

    power transformers, protective relays, circuit breakers, control and supervisory equipment, voltage regulators and other equipment within electric utility substations, generating stations, data centers, and industrial plants.

    ResponsibilitiesUnderstand and utilize the latest industry testing and commissioning standards and guidelines such as IEEE and NETAProvide high level customer service, consistently delivers quality services and maintains highly professional and respectful relationship with clientsPromote the efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keepingPerform advanced troubleshooting and problem analysis (or the ability to learn) associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Battery Ground FaultsProvides support in areas of high technical complexity.

    May be required to serve as the interface for the group with other Company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers on technically related matters.

    Shall serve as technical reviewer on assigned projectsParticipate in project meetings including but not limited to:

    kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, lessons learned meetingsIdentify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment.

    Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high-risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration in a manner that ensures no unintended operations of station equipment and protection systems and personnel safetyPrepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analysesEnsure proper project drawing management and general housekeeping is kept onsite at all times.

    Ensure Working/Field Copy of project drawings updated continuously throughout the project to ensure they accurately reflect the as-left condition of the project at the end of each dayMake certain all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents.

    Make certain all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed and distributed properly. Execute tests and develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Review and approve detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipmentAssist other engineers and technicians, as required, during commissioning and startup of systems and equipmentConduct TRC's formal walkdown procedure prior to energizing any equipmentMicroprocessor Relays
    • Familiarity with Software, Settings and Logic Application and Testing (SEL, GE, ABB, ZIV, Alstom, Beckwith, NXTPhase).
    Perform isolation, setpoint testing, advanced logic testing, scheme testing (reclosing, breaker failure, pilot scheme, end-to-end satellite)Electromechanical and Solid State Relays
    • Familiarity with Application and Testing Techniques, Literature (GE, ABB, Westinghouse, Basler).

    Audio Tone Equipment
    • Setup, tune, program, audio tone equipment (Trench, RFL, Guard/Trip, FSK)Examples of Equipment to be tested
    • SF6/Oil/Vacuum Breakers, Circuit Switchers, Power Transformers, Capacitor Banks, Bus, CTs, PTs, CCVTs, Wave Traps, Disconnect Switches, Surge Arrestors, Regulators, Reclosers, Cables, DC Battery Banks, Grounding, Generators, Station Service Transformers, AC/DC PanelsExamples of tests to be performed
    • SF6 Gas, Oil Sampling, Vacuum Bottle Integrity, Core-Ground Test, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance, Nitrogen System, Power Factor, Excitation, Sweep Frequency Response Analysis, Turns Ratio, Polarity, Dielectric Withstand, Motion Analysis, Operating Mechanism Inspection, Contact Resistance, Capacitance, Inductance, Impedance, Disconnect Jaw and Blade Alignment, Battery Strap and Cell Resistance/Specific Gravity/Load Tests QualificationsBachelor's Degree in a Electrical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field is required.
    8+ years of testing & commissioning experience within electric utilities or complex commercial & industrial power plants performing the specific activities listed above (or an equivalent amount of combined education, training and experience which may include Journeyman Apprentice Electrician Training, US Army Prime Power School, US Navy Nuclear Electrician Program, etc.)Abilities to work cooperatively with others in a team environment as well as to work independently while maintaining a high level of initiative and self-motivationIntermediate knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication; solid understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring and interconnect drawings, one line and three line diagrams; Understanding design intent of all protection and control (P&C) circuitsAnalyze and effectively utilize drawings in the commissioning and/or testing processAdvanced testing of medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment. Perform apparatus and protective relay testing and interpret test results with minimal supervision.

    Advanced knowledge of and ability to learn test equipment specific software to accurately conduct and document test activitiesTesting and commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits.

    Perform commissioning activities and interpret results with minimal supervision.

    Intermediate knowledge of and ability to learn commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activitiesUtilize TRC's Testing and Commissioning standard documentation policies including but not limited to:
    Testing and Commissioning Services home folder, project specific ProjectWise filing procedures, onsite documentation record keeping and procedures, TRC's documentation management system (ProjectWise), standard documentation (templates, planning, reporting, data sheets, test certification sheets, isolation plans, QA/QC forms, project closeout)

    Understand project requirements including scopes of work, budgets, schedules, specific client requirements, project deliverables, and project closeoutFamiliarity with Company's drawing system, ANSI Standards, National Electric Safety Code, and the Company's design and construction standardsAvailability:

    Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time and be available to work flexible hours, including weekends, overtime holidays and night work; up to 80% travelMust have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectivelyMust have good PC skills and experience with Adobe and Microsoft programsU.S.
