I am a highly practical scientist with a history of designing materials to meet specific customer requirements.  I produced products to drill deep into the earth, fly into space, protect Navy ships, improve fuel economy of auto engines, and medical devices to improve health. Designed materials, equipment, and processes to produce 2 billion metal components made from metal powder.

• Designed materials and production processes for Automotive, Medical, Aerospace, Electronics, Cell phones, and Defense applications 
• Technical lead for Metal Injection Molding (MIM), plastics, metals, vacuum equipment, heat treating, ceramics, extrusion, failure analysis, and sintering in both US and Asian facilities
• Work with customers to help them select materials for applications and have developed alloys for multiple applications. (steel, stainless steel, soft magnetic, titanium, and super alloys) 
• Developed filled plastic compounds up to 77 volume % metal powder
• Train sales engineers to be able to review parts for Designs for Manufacturability 
• Developed vacuum furnaces resulting in saving of over $50M
• Managed technology developments resulting in company growth of 800%
• Developing process for binder jet Metal 3D printing producing results superior to GE and HP
• Developed new process to produce a machinable ceramic with 50 volume % 75 micron pores this year

• Submitted research plans to government agency for funding, averaging over $3M of awarded contract annually.
• Managed multi $M projects developing weapons systems for the Navy, through the National Center for Excellence in Metalworking Technologies
• Managed cross-functional groups of up to 40 engineers on development of manufacturing processes, materials, and 3D simulation software for powder compaction, heat transfer and flow
• Partnered with production companies to ensure that developments would work in production environment
• Developed tungsten heavy alloy that doubled the protection of Navy ships

• Developed conventional powder metallurgy for high wear applications in auto engines
• Managed the development of fledgling MIM division

Sandia National Labs, Livermore, CA

• Developed manufacturing and process technologies for use in nuclear testing and the strategic defense initiative 
• Expanded the Powder Metallurgy lab and installed a composites lab
