Pharmaceutical / Bio-tech
About Sophia Green:
I am a second-year Biomedical Engineering student at Boston University with a strong interest in medical technology, research, and device design. I have experience in Python, JavaScript, and MATLAB, along with hands-on laboratory skills gained through college coursework and my role as a Lab Assistant for AP Chemistry at my former high school. In that position, I developed skills such as laboratory techniques, materials handling, solution preparation, and proper equipment use and care. During the Fall 2026 semester, I completed a research project examining the relationship between diet and Hashimoto’s thyroid disease and designed a prototype mobile app that generates dining hall based meal recommendations to help students with Hashimoto’s reduce dietary-related anxiety. I am a motivated student who takes every opportunity to apply engineering principles to improve public health and advance medical outcomes. I’m excited to contribute to the innovation happening across the biomedical field and to be part of the rapid progress in emerging health technologies.
Experience
During my senior year of high school, I worked as a Lab Assistant for the AP Chemistry department. In this role, I supported students during laboratory sessions, strengthened my own understanding of advanced lab techniques, prepared solutions, handled materials safely, and maintained laboratory equipment.
Each summer, I work at a golf course as both kitchen staff and a bartender. These positions have strengthened my ability to collaborate with coworkers, stay calm during high‑pressure rushes, and remain attentive to the needs of every customer.
In the Fall 2026 semester, I served as a Teaching Assistant for Boston University’s General Chemistry course, a foundational class for Pre‑Medical and Biomedical Engineering students. I attended lectures to assist students and answer questions in real time, held weekly office hours to help students work through practice problems, and led two weekly discussion sections where students collaborated on problem‑solving with my guidance. This experience taught me about effective pedagogy, how students build scientific mental models, and how to adapt explanations to different learning styles.
