David Taniyo-Ching is a writing coach, nonfiction ghostwriter, and new adult speculative fiction writer of the novella Angel on the Ward. David has eleven years of experience in ghostwriting nonfiction, five years coaching writing, and six years writing fiction. His latest novel, Rise of the Nephilim, under his pen name James Edgar Skye takes the reader on a dystopian fantasy journey with intense world-building and characters. His biggest writer influences are Edgar Allan Poe, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, and Margaret Atwood. He has an MA in Creative Writing and English and is working on his MFA. David completed his Graduate Certificate in the Online Teaching of Writing.
David worked out of his home in Salinas, California, where John Steinbeck wrote his novels and was home for most of his life. Steinbeck’s influence in writing about the beautiful Salinas Valley inspired David to write books about his hometown which grew into a love for speculative fiction. David plans to teach English in South Korea in late 2023 because he wants to travel to one of his favorite places, and teaching will allow him to live in Korea. His love for Korean food, culture, and music is why South Korea is a good traveling hub to travel through Asia.
David was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder, anxiety, and PTSD, and he shared his mental health journey in his memoir The Bipolar Writer: A Memoir in 2020. In his free time, he works as a mental health advocate and podcaster on his interview-style podcast, The Bipolar Writer. Mental illness has deeply impacted David's ability to write complex human characters. He is a very organized writer, and his characters sometimes deal with the issues he struggles with daily. Mental health also gives him great insight into the human spirit as his mental health influences his writing style, and he perseveres through writing fiction.
