Christy Chason

Hello! I am a professional Public Relations and Communication Strategist specializing in social media, public events/programming, relationship building, and marketing and promotions. In my ten-year tenure at the Library of Congress, I have worked as a Copyright Specialist at the U.S. Copyright Office, and as a Public Affairs (Liaison Specialist) at the Veterans History Project (VHP). At the VHP, I initiated and nurtured stakeholder relationships in government, military, private, and academic sectors, to promote VHP's mission to collect and preserve oral history interviews of U.S. military veterans. In turn, this bolstered the permanent holdings of the Library of Congress. I also authored press releases, fact sheets, and articles for the Library of Congress newsletter, The Gazette, as well as social media content for the VHP, Library of Congress, and American Folklife Center. I am a very hard worker and would be humbled and honored to work for the Smithsonian as an Advancement Communications Specialist. 

As a Public Affairs (Liaison) Specialist at the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, I performed the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

• Initiated and nurtured stakeholder relationships in government, military, private, and academic sectors to promote the mission of the Veterans History Project (VHP) and bolster the permanent collections of the Library of Congress. 
• Developed, evaluated, and implemented communications plans for organizational, public, and social media programming. 
• Coordinated major programs for the Library of Congress - including Panel Discussions, Book Talks, Galas, the National Book Festival, and other large public events with the American Red Cross, Congressional members, and veterans' organizations. 
• Resolved communications challenges involving topics ranging from veterans' history and affairs, to media, communications, and government affairs.
• Advanced policies and procedures fostering the collection of personal stories of United States veterans.
• Organized and managed Congressional and stakeholder briefings to support the VHP. 
• Authored press releases and fact sheets for the VHP. 
• Authored articles for the Library of Congress's newsletter, The Gazette, as well as for the Military Officers Association of America, and the American Folklife Center Blog, Folklife Today. 
• Created social media content for the Library of Congress Twitter page, VHP Twitter and Facebook pages, and the American Folklife Center Facebook page. 
• Curated materials for special exhibits and the VHP website feature, “Experiencing War.” 
• Organized a national radio media tour and broadcast engagements for the VHP project director. 

I hold a master's degree in Communication, Culture & Technology (CCT) from Georgetown University. CCT studies the impact of technology on society, using tools from multiple disciplines to develop fresh insight and solutions. My major focuses were on women's studies, art and representation, identity, and music and communications.
