Amanda Matthews
About Amanda Matthews:
My name is Amanda, and I am a certified teacher of English as a Second Language. With experience teaching ESL in the United States and abroad - in the classroom and virtual space - my professional experience and personal passions afford me skills to engage learners in ways that allow them to use the target language in a personalized and meaningful way. I am certified in TESOL/TEFL/ESL and have three years' experience teaching levels A1-C3 to learners of all ages.
Experience
Empowering learners of all ages to use English as a way to improve their quality of life is a mission I believe in both personally and professionally. With three years of Teaching English as a Second or Other Language experience both in the United States and abroad - as well as within the classroom and virtual settings - I am excited at the prospect of becoming an Educator with your school.
After receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and TESOL/TEFL Certificate for Teaching General and Business English, I orchestrated classes of 20+ adult learners for UCEDA International, achieving the school’s highest ever retention rate at 80%. I challenged typical classroom rhetoric by bringing textbook activities to life through dynamic games, group exercises, and role plays. Wanting to expand my professional and personal horizons further, I then moved to Madrid, Spain, where I was a Freelance educator. Maintaining a steady portfolio of 20+ clients, I designed my own curriculum, classes, and retention exercises for learners ranging from adolescents to MBA professionals to lawyers. I was then awarded “Teacher of the Year” based on student, parent, and peer feedback. Throughout my time in the US and Spain, I held two virtual positions for E-Learning platforms Magic Ears and Cambly. With these companies, I engaged over 1,800 learners using culturally sensitive teaching practices with asynchronous systems, realia, and Total Physical Response methodologies. I was rated 4.5/5 and 9/10 on learner and parent feedback.
I will strategically blend my years of experience in education, leadership, and training with my passion for learning languages to make your school the top choice for students, parents, and neighboring schools. Being in the classroom is the most gratifying experience, and I would be delighted to be considered for this role as I am willing to relocate and want to immerse myself into the Italian culture and language. I have provided my resume and look forward to hearing from you soon!
