About Ailsa Wu:
I’m a Computer Science student with a background in sales, support, and psychology. I started off studying how people think and what motivates them, and now I’m learning how to apply that same curiosity to tech—whether it’s figuring out how something works or helping someone solve a problem.
I’ve worked in busy retail environments where adaptability and communication were key, and I’ve also taken on coordination roles in student programs that support learning and mentorship. I’m still finding my footing in programming, but I care deeply about work that improves lives and connects people.
My interests sit at the intersection of tech, mental health, and community and I’m always open to learning something new.
Experience
I have over five years of experience in customer-facing roles, including retail and food service positions at Target and Go! Go! Curry!. In these environments, I developed strong skills in sales, multitasking, inventory management, conflict resolution, and independent problem solving. I was often trusted to close shifts, support team operations, and assist new hires in getting up to speed.
In my current role as a peer mentorship coordinator for the Computer Science Club at Hunter College, I lead program organization, match mentors with mentees, and help troubleshoot communication and scheduling issues. I manage spreadsheets, coordinate outreach through email and Discord, and gather feedback to improve the experience for everyone involved. This role has helped me strengthen my communication, coordination, and leadership skills while staying grounded in what it means to support a team.
Education
I completed an Associate's degree in Psychology at Queensborough Community College, where I studied human behavior and how people interact. I am now pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science at Hunter College. I am exploring programming, cybersecurity, and the role of technology in building tools that support and connect people. My background gives me a unique perspective on both technical systems and the people who use them.
