Located in the nation's capital, The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is the chief legal office of the District of Columbia.

OAG enforces the District's laws, works to protect and defend D.C. residents, and provides the highest level of independent legal advice and guidance to District of Columbia government agencies.

The Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia is seeking A Case Management Specialist within the Child Support Services Division.


Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent is assigned a given caseload of routine cases or is assigned other cases as appropriate.

Performs the full range of functions relative to the work of the Child Support Services Division for the assigned caseload and for other cases, as needed.

Takes necessary action to establish and enforce support obligations owed by noncustodial parents to their children, ensuring that separate cases are developed for multiple noncustodial parents related to the same custodian.

Exercises discretion and reasonable judgment in the sensitive area of establishing each relationship.


Reviews and updates collected data for adequacy and completeness and determines the type of legal action to be initiated (paternity determination, garnishment, support obligation, reciprocal action, etc.).

Compiles "court-ready" documentation that will be sufficient for prosecution by the Attorney General.

Determines the most appropriate manner of processing cases.

Determines whether to refer a case for parent location, enforcement, or reciprocal out-of-state action or whether to submit pleadings to litigation staff for decision making regarding the pursuit of court action.

Monitors progress of the assigned cases. Documents each case action and communication for case management and data reliability purposes.


May be called upon to participate in calculating and determining, prior to the court hearing, the recommended amount of support to be provided by the noncustodial parent.

Is responsible to report to the court or other appropriate agency on case-related findings and results. Also, may be requested to provide testimony on aspects of the case about which (s)he is knowledgeable.


Incumbent may be called upon to oversee the process of receiving and disbursing collections obtained from the court, Clearinghouse, and other IV-D programs.

Resolves exception issues related to monthly obligations based on court orders, the correct method of distribution in accordance with relevant regulations, monthly and quarterly financial and statistical reports, and reimbursement of State and Federal Assistance accounts.


Coordinates the payment of support and the arrangement of medical insurance with noncustodial parent employers and/or asset holders, as appropriate.

Monitors the frequency and consistency of payments for purposes of collection efforts.

In this regard, evaluates the circumstances of any default after investigation and interviewing as needed, and determines the propriety and manner of proceeding with enforcement activities.

Where legal intervention is indicated, prepares cases for referral to local or out-of-state courts in coordination with CSSD attorneys or other states.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
