Located in the nation's capital, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is the chief legal office of the District of Columbia.

OAG enforces the District's laws, works to protect and defend D.C. residents, and provides the highest level of independent legal advice and guidance to District of Columbia government agencies.

The Civil Litigation Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia is seeking a Trial Attorney for Section III.


The Civil Litigation Division defends the District of Columbia, including District agencies, officers, and employees, in civil lawsuits filed in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the U.S.

District Court for the District of Columbia seeking monetary damages, equitable remedies, and other relief.


Duties and Responsibilities

The Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia seeks a Trial Attorney for Section III of the Civil Litigation Division.

Attorneys within CLD Section III handle a variety of matters, including employment discrimination claims, personal injury and other common law tort cases, and federal constitutional civil rights litigation, among others.

Qualifications and Education

Incumbent must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school at the time of appointment.

A minimum of 6 years of specialized experience is required.

Working Conditions/ Environment
Work is primarily performed in an office setting.

Generally, work is sedentary, some walking, handling, and carrying of light to moderately heavy objects (such as case records, briefcases, and exhibits) is required.

The starting salary for this position is negotiable up to $128,824 depending on qualifications and availability of funds.

Tour of Duty:

Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

In-person reporting with limited telework and flexible work schedules available upon eligibility.
