    The Position
    Come join a team involved in various engineering and architectural activities related to public works projects. Responsibilities include planning, design, construction, code enforcement, and more across different types of projects.

    Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
    - Engineering and design analysis
    - Construction practices and safety requirements
    - Personnel management training
    - Building design principles
    - Contract administration

    Employment Qualifications
    Current registration as a Civil Engineer or Architect in California AND two years of relevant experience in designing multi-story buildings and facilities.

    Special Requirements
    A valid Driver's License, Class C or higher, is required for all positions in this series.

    Certification Requirements
    Employees in the Building Inspection Division must obtain certification within two years of hire.

    Physical and Mental Requirements:
    - Work hours: frequent overtime
    - Emotional/psychological: public interaction, making decisions impacting health and safety, adapting to changing priorities
    - Visual: good overall vision including color discernment
    - Hearing: hearing normal speech
    - Mobility: typing, sitting for long periods, occasional walking on uneven terrain

    Probationary Period
    Twelve (12) months

    Supplemental Questionnaire
    Applicants must provide detailed responses to each question, 'See Resume' responses are not accepted.

    Formula Rate Examination (Weighted 100%)
    Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored. The score will determine their ranking on the eligible/employment list.

    SALARY STEP INCREASES:
    Approximately 5% annually until reaching the top of the salary range.

    VACATION:
    Begins at 10 days annually, maxing out at 25 days over time.

    HOLIDAYS:
    14.5 holidays recognized per year.

    SICK LEAVE:
    Equivalent to 15 days annually, with unlimited accumulation.

    PARENTAL LEAVE:
    Entitles eligible employees to up to 160 hours of paid leave upon the birth or adoption of a minor child.

    TUITION REIMBURSEMENT:
    Available for regular employees, amounts vary per union agreement.

    RETIREMENT:
    Social Security and Sacramento County Employees' Retirement System coverage.

    HEALTH INSURANCE:
    Various health plan options.

    DRUG TESTING:
    Required for all appointed candidates.
