Our Profile:


The Institute for Machine Elements and System Development (MSE) at RWTH Aachen University conducts interdisciplinary research on a wide range of current, future, and industry-relevant issues.

The Systems Engineering - Process Development department focuses on the transfer of the product creation process into a model-based framework.

This includes both the networking of existing processes and the further development of relevant processes within product development. To achieve this, we use and further develop the methods of model-based systems engineering (MBSE).

As part of the Excellence Cluster "Internet of Production" (IoP), MSE is investigating how the product creation process (PEP) can be made more agile and sustainable.

The main focus is on enabling efficient sustainability assessments in early development phases. For this, we utilize the methods of model-based systems engineering (MBSE).

By modeling the product life cycle in an overarching system model and linking it with product-specific data, data generated during development can be provided early and consistently.

The integration of sustainability assessment models with the system model allows for early and continuous evaluation of product sustainability.
