The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is the national institute that provides expert opinions and statements on food, feed, and chemical safety as well as consumer health protection, based on internationally recognized scientific evaluation criteria.

In these areas, it advises the federal government as well as other institutions and interest groups. The BfR conducts its own research on topics closely related to its assessment tasks. It is a legal entity within the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

Job description:


The main work of the Contaminants specialist group is the development of modern analytical methods for determining levels of unwanted substances, contaminants, marine biotoxins, feed additives, and ingredients.

It thus makes an important contribution to the health risk assessment of these substance groups throughout the entire value chain (farm-to-fork principle).


Specific tasks include:

  • Participation in the national reference laboratory for feed additives and in the area of risk early detection
